I have to admit that, technically, it's not "ASCII" art, since the script uses colored divs, rather than actual ASCII characters, to create the "images", but the concept is the same. :)

Incidentally, I've added some avatar images from here, as well, so give it a peek when you get the chance. :)

The one thing that the script can't handle (for obvious reasons) is the animated part of animated GIF images. It only shows the first "frame" of the image, I'm afraid, so Duskie's avatar isn't as exciting as it could be.

My first recollection of ASCII art was when some people used an old invention call a typewriter to create an image by using different
symbols, numbers and letters. Then one day some people used a computer program and an old dot-matrix printer to basically do the
same thing only better and faster.

Those at the pl8 site are just using colors to shade the same symbol...actually far from ASCII art in the technical sense. Nice but not ASCII.

I don't remember them using typewriters but I do remember we had them at college in the 80's - done on dot matrix as you say. Of course naturally there were a few naked women in there.  ::)

If there were no naked women in college while you were there, then you may have been doing something wrong! :P

Haha, missed that.  ;D

Ordered a NAS drive yesterday, I'm quite excited about it.  It's been a while since I got a new gadget.

This is the one - Synology DS110J 1-Bay NAS Server

I felt it was time to invest as I have so much stuff that I would really miss if things went belly up.  Like all the website code, photos, music and everything.  I really need a daily backup of all the coding work I am doing and this fits the bill and does a lot of other useful stuff too.  iTunes (no use for it yet), streaming (to my TV), bitTorrent downloads (can do it by itself, so no need for PC to be on) and so on...

One of the most useful features to me is that it can operate as a web server (PHP/SQL).  There are many times I need an easy way to let other people see what I am working on and this will solve that.

I like the way it will be separate to my PC for security reasons too and it only uses about 15 Watts or something.

Come on Mr. Postman !

We got so much we love on our computers, it's a shame when you hear computer died and someone lost so much.   I got a win7 laptop that i try to keep updated with my programs and research from my main computer.
Main Comp is old and could die any time.  Then I would die too if I didn't have the backup on the laptop.

So you finally went for the NAS drive Freddy, congrats.

I think if anyone treasures their documents then an external drive of some sort is a must and the extra features of a NAS sounds like it will come in very handy for you.

One of the advantages of being self employed, work when you want, but of course the down side is getting work and filling out your tax return.

Freddy do you mind if I ask what you intend to do with the NAS drive?
