What's your computer programming experience?
« on: September 09, 2009, 02:57:17 pm »
Seeing as the computer is the preeminent device for working with artificial intelligence, I figure that it might be helpful in my conversations with others if I knew how much computer programming experience they have. I'd like to know which languages you've worked with, how long or how much your experience with each has been, and what major programs or projects you've worked on, if any.

I guess I'll start. Your responses don't necessarily have to follow this format.

Computer languages:

  • Visual Basic 6 - one semester of a high school course.
  • C++ - several months.
  • HTML - very little.
  • AutoHotkey - several months.

Completed major projects and programs:

  • None.

I've spent far to much time speaking to machines :

Computer Languages, mainly these :
   - HTML/XHTML - quite a few years now, still learning tricks though.
   - CSS - ditto, but it's easy anyway.
   - BASIC - many flavours, over various years - mainly VB6, VB2005/2008 most recently.
   - PHP - couple of years, now daily, this is my main interest at the moment.
   - javascript - a little simple stuff when I need it.

Projects
   - Numerous websites - inc Chatterbot collection, www.software-hound.net most recently.
   - Hap Explorer.
   - Numerous programs for my own use or just to develop skills.
   - Numerous PHP snippets and general website coding.
   - Now started work on themes for SMF sites - eg www.guildwars2nexus.com/index.php

Out of curiosity, did you generate your avatar?

Don't be too upset that you're not a programmer. You give technology personality. If it weren't for the graphics, story, voice, and personality that you and people with similar abilities put into technology, it would all be boring and depressing.

So you work mostly with web technology?

SMF? That stands for Simple Machine Forums? What are those?

SMF is a company! *Slaps forehead.*

Sorry. I haven't been reading the Digital Girl story. For me, my project is sort of a race against time. So all my time has to be devoted to it or to recuperation.

Mainly the web yes, it's become my main area of interest these days.  The last project I worked on that wasn't web-based was Hap Explorer.  Since then I've only done the odd thing.

No worries lrh...understand.

To give some more info in general, this site/forum was originally called Digital Girl...I went AWOL for a while (personal problems) and in order to keep the site live Freddy kindly and thankfully sorted out new hosting with a new domain (the current one we know).

Over the years working on this site, its amazing what I have learnt, jvascript, html and php wise considering I knew nothing beforehand :)

So i can get by with all of the above, but as I am sure Freddy will testify too, I am always asking for his help or conformation on something lol  ;D

Irh9, and others,
I have had two semesters of, VB Dot Net, and can do things when I have the book with me,,, Ya don't need to know everything , Just where you left the book!
Active Directory (M.S.)
Trees
forests
and even leaf objects.

Mostly I am computer networking, which entails addressing, how many networks are needed for companies, Information technology (sounds generalized but that IS what I.T. is)

I did some things with Java on my cell phone (now accepts more formats for music)

Duhhh umm lots of other things including helping a computer repair shop un-bug computers and put some new systems together (fun) * Lime Wire* keeps the repair shops in business!!

Yep! I'm all over the map and I am taking a break from school cauze I'm wound up too tight.

J.
