Can we PLEASE lock down the Wiki?
« on: June 11, 2009, 12:21:49 pm »
I've been busy writing quite a few articles for it (I'll upload them when I have all the info to reference them) but there's little point when we allow anonymous users to edit things, because THIS is what happens;

http://aidreams.co.uk/aiwiki/index.php?title=User_talk:Dante_Ashton

DO NOT CLICK ON THE LINKS, Something just screwed up my computer after I did that.

Either we close the Wiki, or we lock it down, because this is just silly.

In the words of the late great Douglas Adams - "DON'T PANIC!"

There's always the chance a bot will get through our efforts at defence.  As the WIKI wasn't really doing a lot I only monitored it occasionally.  I had noticed this bot, which is from Sweden by the way, but I decided to leave it to bury itself up it's own bottom.  By which I mean I figured if it was happy enough posting things to that page and no one would ever see it (well not soon) I would leave it there rather than block it and have it search for another page.

But that was only a stop gap - I have now blocked unregistered users from accessing your talk page.  We are never going to be bot free, so just report them when you see them, which is what you did so thanks :)

But it's great you have been working on some articles.  I have been much too busy with other things in Real LifeTM, gardening, learning more about PHP and a computing course I am studying.  But I will get round to it some time.

Here's an update.

Like I anticipated the bot went roaming for other pages and we got hit quite a few times.  Now there's a Captcha system in place.
