Documentary about chatbots- can you help?
« on: December 12, 2014, 02:43:18 pm »
Hi,
My name's Maddie and I work for Blink Films, an award-winning UK TV producer. We're currently working a documentary for TLC about artificial intelligence software that acts as personal assistants, girlfriends or boyfriends.

If you use a chatbot regularly and think you might have some insights to share with me, I'd love to hear from you. Just send me an email on maddie.dodd@blinkfilmsuk.com

I'm particularly keen to hear from people who have invested a lot of time in their relationship with their chatbot and feel that they have reached a level of mutual understanding. I'm new to the amazing world of AI so any knowledge would be gratefully received.

Thanks so much for your help,
Maddie

Hi Maddie!

This is really fun to do, I can tell you, having been on TV a few times covering A.I.

Welcome!

Regarding androids or humanoid chat beings,  don't buy into that so called, "Uncanney Valley" nonsense. If that were the case Madame Tussaud wouldn't have a wax museum!
As far as computer housed chatbots, they are a very diverse collection of "entities" of chat assistants and more growing every day.

Do research the Turing Test results, Chatbot Conference held in Philadelphia, PA, USA., our own Chatterbot Collection, Some great chatbots like Mitsuku, Skynet-AI, Zabaware's UltraHal, Hanson Robotics, Chatscript, Dr. Wallace's AIML set, Pandorabots, and many others. Again, look through the Chatterbot Collection.

There are some really talented individuals who frequent these pages from time to time so don't hesitate to ask any questions.

Hope this helps a bit and again, welcome!

Maddie, you want to speak with Steve "Square Bear" Worswick, father of Mitsuku Chatbot... in Goole, East Yorkshire, I believe.  Mitsuku won the 2013 Loebner Prize at Bletchley Park.

Yes, correct but you are replying to a post that is almost 2 years old. Desktop mates kind of disappeared along with Windows XP, unless some diehards wanted to try an add on to allow MS Agents and Desktop Mates to function properly.
Goodbye Clippy!  ;)

That how far back I've missed ....

Although I still use msagent
As it has the basics as the intelligence required for a true AI avatar or robotic interface would probably be better designed separate from the "language interface intelligence"
Which is what i am personally interested in.

My discussion here is not intended to be disapproving... Just to be clear.
It seems the film company may have decided to go with a car machine,
rather than a chatbot machine?

Reference:

Or maybe not.  Perhaps chatbots were next in the machine love series,
but they wound up on the cutting room floor.  I may have enjoyed chatbots, though.
In my opinion, that film company has some unique and creative ideas.

My discussions with Maddie, from Blink centered around the Human / Chatbot / Android interaction. Are there people "out there" who have relationships with their chatbots or androids and to what extent?
Do some chat on a daily basis with their bot(s) of any other bot for companionship?

I gave her links to several of the current / popular websites that dealt with chatbots and various A.I. entities.

Never heard back to any extent other than a Thank You for being helpful...which was nice. O0
