wgb14- thanks.  Have I answered your questions on parser now?

one- IP rule still applies. Dont abandon your IP address to do this, or you lose your existing identity (though I could rename your most recent file to match your ip. so if you WANT to try this with new ip, I can make the old match you if we need to.)

One- for what it's worth... I see you became two, have acquired an extensive history (losing the topics of Hawaii and Shopping entirely due to some format error so she thinks they are used-up topics (not a biggie).

Bruce: More or less yes, you have provided me with material to study for several weeks (in my spare time). I will remain a loyal fun of your work for the years to come, but I am not sure if AC will be so kind and understanding with our need to hear from you. I am afraid that from a certain point and after we will stop receiving updates about your work!!!! Hope this will not happen!!!

Bruce just had a rather long conversation with your bot. It is defientely the only bot that held me for so long, but it always annoy me (for any bot) when it doesn't know what to do with the input, to try to reply with irrelevant answers.  I would prefer something in the following style:

User: Some conversation
Bot: Apologies I don't understand what you are saying can you please try again?

In human-to-human conversations we always ask for clarifications when we don't understand something (at least the first time).

a) in Chatterbox competition with judges, you get 0 credit for saying I dont know. If you can hit on something affiliated, you get partial credit
b)  I could make it an option that the chatbot didnt reply that way... but I think it would be a mistake.  Some stalling behavior works. But I do have the abiity to come back with a simple I dont know. I could make it an option you can ask her for.

Bruce,
Sorry but it seems I am going to have to answer some questions from my ISP and do some DNS resolutions.
I have a plethora of backtrack and e-fence and like programs that i needed to run and my printer is running out of ink
everything is a mess here and I had to change my IP address sorry for the work you had to do but I hope sue is going to be debugged none the less
I hope things can be worked out, but as for me I am 'on the fence' so to speak as to the competition.  I think they will be blown away.
get back with me again if you wish

Regards,
J.

Bruce a very quick question for you:

Let's say that I want to input the system the following two phrases:

1) Which areas of the castle will we tour
2) Shall we begin the tour?

and have them matched with the following input:

where are we going to tour?

You can clearly see that word  "tour" in the first phrase is used as verb while in the second as noun. How would you code this in a script so the system can understand that the user's phrase match with phrase 1 and not with phrase 2? Would you use a pattern that requires data from the parser or in this case if the parser fails the matching process fails as well?

A lesson in manners for someone who chatted with Suzette (for your amusement)..
From a today's chat with xxx flush == xxx, indent == suzette)

Hello
   Hello
how are you?
   I'm pretty good. And you?
Not good!
   Happy Cinco de Mayo.
Yep!
How about this new topic? Zen teaches you to find inherent wisdom by both paying full attention and no attention. The trick is to avoid distraction, which is leads to partial attention.
Oh shut up!
OK. Have fun talking to yourself for the next minute or so.
You biotch!

ok, you can talk!

Please

 -

Hello again

Why won't you talk to me?
   Because it helps avoid boredom.
oMG!
   I quite understand.

ok. you ask about tours... and you postulate that the parser cannot be trusted, so I cant use it.
You have this
1) Which areas of the castle will we tour
2) Shall we begin the tour?

and matched this: where are we going to tour?

When tour is used as a noun, it generally will have a determiner, so...
(  ~determinerlist *~ tour )
will probably do. I allow a short gap in case we have adjectives like "the grand tour" or "the first floor tour".  But it will be hard (not impossible) to construct a sentece where tour is a short gap following a determiner, like  "... the farm we tour" .  I could TRY to deal with that by using only part of speech information like:
( ~determinerlist {~~adjective ~~noun }  {~~adjective ~~noun }   tour)
This would allow up to two intervening adjectives or nouns.  Harder to find a sentence that can trip that up. Bear in mind that writing patterns that can NEVER be tripped up w/o the parser functioning is not necessarily a great goal (your chatbot has to survive a margin of error).
