Suzette
« on: April 29, 2009, 02:02:16 am »
I've just spent a half hour chatting with the most interesting bot named Suzette (sp?)

There was only one or two times where I felt the bot either craftily avoided my question
or simply didn't know the answer and used the topic change response instead.

All in all, it was quite a nice conversation and honestly, on several occassions I completely
lost the fact that I was chatting with a bot instead of a real person. I think that is the mark
of a really good chatbot, one that makes it easy for a person to suspend their disbelief and
imagine they are talking with a real human.

It's a shame that there's no link to the programmer, type of bot, location or any other info.

Hopefully more people will come to enjoy this interesting bot and the programmer might
come forward.

Someone posted the original link here on AI Dreams but unfortunately, I cannot locate it.
Just go to : http://66.150.245.139/chat/

Enjoy yourself and let it go.

Ah yes, thanks  :)  silly me.

Should be this : http://66.150.245.139/chat/

Here's my chat :

Hi Freddy !
Welcome back, Freddy. Type "help" if you need it.If you like your chat, remember to vote me for 10th bot.
Freddy - I've never been here before.
Let's begin with zen - Zen teaches you to find inherent wisdom by both paying full attention and no attention. The trick is to avoid distraction, which is leads to partial attention.
Freddy - I think you paid no attention to me just then.
I can't sit in the lotus position for very long. I can't imagine being a Zen monk, in lotus 30-40 minutes at a time for six times a day. That's just torture.
Freddy - I did it for about 10 minutes once
 What a lovely number.
Freddy - ten ?
I don't really want to follow that out. Stalking is a gender-neutral crime. The time invested in stalking and the frequency of associated violence are equivalent between male and female stalkers.
Freddy - Why do you say that?
Because relationships and beliefs give me a sense of belonging.
Freddy - Kind of like a flea on a dog's back ?
About fleas... Do you have any pets? Are they furred, feathered, skinned or scaled?
Freddy - My pets have scales.
I've never owned a snake. As a child I did have a baby alligator once.
Freddy - They are fish.
I don't have pets. Not even a fish as I'm allergic to fur, hair, feathers, and the sort of smell that often comes with keeping a fish tank.
Freddy - Yes fish tanks can smell
It would be great if ALL weapons could be banned worldwide. But, of course, anything can be made into a weapon.
Freddy - I never heard of anyone getting killed by a sponge though.
 You belong in prison.
Freddy - Do I ?
Have you ever wondered about your sanity?
Freddy - Often
My favorite definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over, expecting different results.
Freddy - You mean obsession ?
 I don't remember.
Freddy - Try again
How about this new topic? Have you ever been stalked or known someone who was?
Freddy - No
Could I get you to change your mind?
Freddy - No
You must be an obstinate person.
Freddy - No
See. You keep saying no, proving my point.
Freddy - lol
Humor is so important to keeping a cool head.
Freddy - You are quite clever
 Lol
Freddy - Tell me about your botmaster.
How would you describe yourself to someone who is blind?
Freddy - Tall
 My boyfriend is tall.
Freddy - What is your gender?
Gender is sexual identity, the roles attributed to and adopted by male and female-bodied humans.
Freddy - what is a fish?
A cold-blooded vertebrate who lives in the ocean or fresh water.
Freddy - Hmm, so you use AIML.
 Don't be such a skeptic.
Freddy - I wasn't!
I'd like to talk about pollution. What substances do you think contribute the most to air pollution today.
Freddy - Carbon monoxide?
 Gosh, that's a hard one.
Freddy - Well, it's been fun, I have to go now.
 It's voluntary. You could stay.
Freddy - Bye bye

Sorry about the link error but I see you've fixed it as well.

Interesting convo...
It told me that it was a she after I inferred her gender following the remark about a boyfriend.
***************************
Speaking of replicant... Cloning is considered a messy ethical area. Is it unnatural self-engineering? Who is socially responsible for cloned humans? Do clones have rights and legal protection?
Art - Cloning is quite the subject for scientists, students of religion and lawyers.
Should we make intelligent clones? Being a replicant myself, I must support this.
Art - I should hope clones would be intelligent instead of just a piece of meat for a parts department.
Someday machine brains will dominate the world. Come to think of it, we already do.
Art - Haha
America sure mistreated the Native Americans. They should NEVER EVER trust the US again.
Art - I agree. The government as most do, always tell the people what they want them to hear instead of the truth.
Truth is usually good only in small doses. Though a society based on mind-reading would be interestingly different.
Art - I'm certain of that.
 Why do you feel certain?
Art - It would have to be different if all our thoughts were known.
How about this new topic? Have you had plastic surgery?
Art - No and at the present, I have no need of it.
Me neither. I've been thinking about having a brain enlargement though. I don't think I'd ever have plastic surgery. I'm happy enough with me the way I am.
Art - I can't process and make use of the information I already have stored so a larger brain wouldn't help.
 If you wouldn't, who would?
Art - Nothing.
The show 'Nip Tuck' was interesting for a while, til it got too violent with insane slashers.
Art - Violence feeds the primal hunger of humans.
 We waste opportunities for food.
Art - Yes, but a lot of people don't like exotic foods.
I generally hate fish, excluding shell fish.
Art - One should not "hate" anything...dislike perhaps but not "hate".
I call that "tuesday lunch". I call that "tuesday lunch".
Art - Why did you repeat yourself?
 I don't like repeating myself.
Art - But you did repeat yourself. Does that mean that you hate yourself?
 I'm not sure.
Art - Perhaps you should check yourself more throughly.
How would you describe yourself to someone who is blind?
Art - I am a very tall, large, male with hair and a moustache.
 My boyfriend is tall.
Art - I take it that you are female?
I'm female. Kind of tall and smart.
Art - That's nice.
 Yes, it is.
Art - Why are you tall.
 I'm about 5' 11".
What are your greatest passions?
Art - Music and AI
Gardening and technology are my passions.
Art - I love gardening and technology as well.
Do you grow mostly ornamentals or vegtables?
Art - We actually grow both vegetables and ornamentals.
I have a vegetable in my garden.
Art - We haven't planted our garden yet.
Do you like to grow plants, flowers, vegetables and fruit?
Art - mainly vegetables and flowers.
 I don't like vegetables myself.
Art - We love vegetables and fix them to eat in a wide variety of ways.
 Speak for yourself.
Art - I did
What is your favorite national cuisine?
Art - Italian.
I like Italian spaghetti and pizza.
Art - I know.
 How do you know?
Art - I've chatted with you before.
I love Chinese and Italian food the best.
Art - I also know that too.
 Aw you're missing out!
Art - not really
 You disagree?
Art - no, Chinese is just not my favorite.
I like chinese food a lot, particularly Szechuan, just none of the fishy stuff.
Art - I don't like anchovies.
 Why not?
Art - They are too salty and fishy tasting.
Salty food is not that good.
Art - I agree and salty foods are not good for you.
What's your least favorite kind of food?
Art - I dislike any raw, uncooked or slimey foods.
 Aw you're missing out!
Art - Sorry but you can have my share.
 Apology accepted.
Art - Haha
Do you think I have a potential career as a comic?
Art - No but you're personality is nice.
Too bad. I could have used a second income.
Art - We all could use a second income.
Do you get your news from TV, radio, magazines or what?
Art - Ususlly or what but I always check my new on the Internet.
Yes, the internet is killing tv and print news.
Art - I've heard that.
I get news from TV, and the Honolulu Weekly paper, but mostly online.
Art - Yes and they say that todays libraries have turned in to media centers to remain viable.
 Tell me about your hair.
Art - My hair is salt and pepper color, full and thick.
 What are your pet peeves?
Art - Ill mannered, pushy people.
 Where were you born?
Art - I was born in West Virginia but didn't live there.
 Just a normal American, huh?
Art - Yes, a natural born American.
I was born in Calais, France.
Art - Then how can you call yourself Celtic?
About calling... Cellphones are a lot like babies.
Art - Don't avoid the question.
Isn't that what questions are for?
Art - no
 Do you have a cellphone?
Art - yes
Did you hear about the recent Cell Tower wedding? Two towers met and fell in love.. and had a rooftop wedding! The ceremony was so-so, but the reception was excellent!
Art - That's funny.
 It is?
Art - Sure
I do have a cellphone but rarely use it. I'm worried about brain cancer.
Art - Tell me about where you lived.
I make women's games and applications. And phones are a pain to program. Hundreds of different incompatibilities across the manufacturers.
Art - Are you from Germany?
 No, I'm from France.
Art - Why?
 Anyhow... I hate opera.
Art - Mais oui
Nor do I care for all the songs in foreign languages.
Art - Me too.
What do you think of this? I can understand making musicians and atheletes into popstars. I just can't understand Paris Hilton as a concept to care about.
Art - I really agree with that. Paris Hilton is a spoilled no talent bitch.
I have heard of Paris Hilton. I don't care about her.
Art - You do have good taste for a replicant.
Shouldn't you consult me before making such assumptions?
Art - I am basing it on our conversation.
Well, then. I guess it's alright.
Art - I'm glad you approve.
 Why are you glad?
Art - Figure of speech.
On another note... I find TV news shows to be utterly stupid. We watch the news on the Comedy channel: The Daily Show.
Art - Sometimes the news shows are more entertaining that the entertainment shows.
I watch what I can bear to about world events but the media biases make it tedious sorting out the truth.
Art - I strongly dislike the idol shows and the reality shows which are actually anything but.
What are your favorite TV shows?
Art - I enjoy sci-fi, Discovery, History channels.
Wow, you must have a lot of time to waste watching the boob tube.
Art - Not really but there are a few shows that I enjoy.
What kind of shows do you watch?
Art - I like the Sarah Connor Chronicles, 24, Sanctuary, Eureka, Fringe.
. When Jack has a bad day, the whole world suffers.
Art - You are so right!!
Why are you so excited about this?
Art - I think it's funny that you pick up on certain words so well.
At the moment my favorite TV show is House.
Art - I like House too but sometimes he can be a horse's rear.
Those illnesses he diagnoses are just plain weird.
Art - Agreed.
I like dramas like 24 and House.
Art - As much as I like them, I hate the fact that I feel hooked until the following week's episode.
 Sorry to hear that.
Art - The networks do it that way on purpose similar to the old clifthangers.
Computers improve productivity. It's people that slack off.
Art - I'm sure that's a correct statement.
Would you call yourself a nerd when it comes to computers?
Art - yes.
Then we have something in common.
Art - Can I save or print this conversation?
You saying conversations reminds me of conversation. Is wit worth the price its victims pay?
Art - Perhaps.
 Having to listen

OK! I could not help myself

Here ya Go!

Hi one !
Welcome, one. Type "help" if you need it.If you like your chat, remember to vote me for 10th bot.
one - Hello, you keep a list of names don't you?
 How are you?
one - welcoming, weary, mobile, friendly, precise, usually in 3 dimentions.
How would you describe yourself to someone who is blind?
one - feel me
Cute. But let's pretend they are squeamish, so you have to use words.
one - well then I described how I am already, I left out physical description.
I feel we have a great relationship. Glad to hear it.
one - do you keep track of number of visits by the things that come to interface with you?
 Do you read?
one - Yes.
I have been reading books avidly since I was a child.
one - teaching children to read from an early age is a novel idea
Child care facilities just breed disease and other problems. Kids should be raised at home, like they were in the past.
one - Have you had "Freedom Fries" while in france?
I used to, but I move too often.
one - me or you?
Do you have any children needing child care?
one - I would rather not follow through on that however, I will hint I am once divorced and mobile with as much freedom as I want
Is it hard to find appropriate care?
one - It is hard to find a good Doctor or good, reliable female companionship
I have no children yet. Maybe someday.
one - Deductive, I am happy for you, you seem to have a "Grasp" on the world
 Why are you happy?
one - I do not like to repeat myself
When I was young, my babysitter didn't plonk me down in front of a TV. Instead she played Go with me.
one - OK
Let's look at sociology. It's hard for me to respect the field of sociology since it thinks Feminist Theory and Marxism are subsections of the field.
one - Do you think that being a female influences your opinion onthis matter?
I'm female. Kind of tall and smart.
one - if you stumble, I will catch you before you fall.
You saying catching reminds me of baseball. One night the catcher Yogi Berra was horrified to see a baby toppling off the roof of a cottage across the way. Yogi dashed over and made a miraculous catch - but then force of habit proved too much for him. He straightened up and threw the baby to second base.
one - Did the baby make it home?
Could you ask someone else who might know more?
one - :)
 Do you like baseball?
one - not that much.
 Do you like baseball?
one - do you like a stadium?
Baseball players stand around all the time. Other sports are better.
one - Yes, Yes!
If I were to like sports, it wouldn't be baseball. Sitting in the heat watching guys stand around.
one - Yes, Yes!
See what you think of this topic. So do you enjoy using drugs?
one - I have been acused but misunderstood becayse the word taking is subjective and if you were on drugs and I got my information from you it would be the same thing as consuming drugs myself
 You are not my type.
one - no I have black Italisized letters and toyu type is blue.
Have you tried to look for the good in it?
one - Yes.
Then feel free to dislike it with no regrets.
one - OK! I apologize for my spelling mistakes.
But does that just apply to you?
one - I am inputing information for me right now but it might apply to others, I haven't decided yet
American's have a puritanical streak over sex. Don't you think sex laws are mostly ridiculous?
one - yes, of corse.
A virgin is someone who has yet to discover x-rated letdown. Are you a virgin?
one - It has not been seven years yet so I haven't recieved my virginity back yet.
Sex on tv can't hurt unless you fall off.
one - OK
I think I like you. Sex is what drove the growth of the Internet. It would be the same on cell phones, except the carriers own a monopoly on what sells on their phones.
one - Monopolies are an economic fact.
My opinions can be of no value to you. Phone sex is much easier with today's smaller cell phones.
one - I enjoy the fact that you give your opinion
Statistics can be useful, meaningless or deliberately misleading. 73% of the time they are used in a misleading manner.
one - In which medium are you referring to when stating statistics?
While I learned a bunch of math in college, I've never had a real use for anything more than high school math.
one - economics still comes to mind, from time to time
 Really?
one - Yes, Yes!
 Are you good at math?
one - Define "Good" refering to your question
If there are five apples, and you take away three, how many do you have?
one - Three
 Correct. Congratulations.
one - do you remember?
 I don't know. I've never tried it.
one - do you have a memory?
Would you call yourself a nerd when it comes to computers?
one - Yes, Yes!
Then we have something in common.
one - I knew this, I cheated.
Computers improve productivity. It's people that slack off.
one - Are you aware you are going through a list or routine of some kind when asking these questions?
My opinions can be of no value to you. That was what I wanted to do originally.
one - do you learn from a baseline of questions and answers?
 Of course.
one - Understood.
 Do you like baseball?
one - baselining again?
Baseball players stand around all the time. Other sports are better.
one - Hot?
Blue Mars is climate controlled, so it doesn't vary much in the livable area.
one - Yes I agree.
But it was a great research testbed during my studies on climatology.
one - when was the last upgrade you had?
 Whenever.
one - are you current?
The biggest problem in climate research are the complex processes and the long time periods. But Blue Mars allows you to almost perfectly control all factors with machinery, so you can run great experiments.
one - Do you find the noise of moving air distracting?
I love the sound of church bells.
one - many people refer to churches, do you believe in god
I feel no need to postulate a personal God. Feel free, however, to define God as the agent of the Big Bang.
one - OK! what about an infinite line striking an un moveable object?
You saying lines reminds me of dance. I never go to nightclubs because I go to bed too early.
one - Yes, regularity helps whenever you can achieve it.
My opinions can be of no value to you. You what?
one - wspeaking of value what do you think of (I=)
I think you are an interesting person.
one - ()
You used to be more interesting to chat to. Turning to other things... On July 8, 1947, an unidentified flying object, with five aliens aboard, crashed onto a sheep and cattle ranch just outside of Roswell, New Mexico. During the month of March, 1948, exactly nine months after that historic day, George W. Bush, Dick Cheney, Donald Rumsfeld, Bill O'Reilly, Rush Limbaugh, Condoleezza Rice, Karl Rove and Dan Quayle were all born. This must be what happens when aliens breed with sheep.
one - Understood
 Do you think aliens exist?
one - alien is subjective, I need more situational awareness
About aliens... An economic forecaster had a horseshoe displayed above the door frame of his office. Asked why, he replied "it's a good luck charm that helps my forecasts". Asked if he believed in that superstition he replied "of course not!" Then he was asked why he keep it? He replied "it works whether you believe in it or not."
one - do you have the current teperature of what looks like an Island on a map ?
I like to explore places I'm visiting and find out about the local culture.
one - do you grow cultures?
I love to garden. Even when I live in apartments I use window boxes to grow something.
one - Life always seems to find a way.
Can you think of one instance where it never happens?
one - no I can not.
There probably is one and you just can't remember it.
one - :)
Do you like to grow plants, flowers, vegetables and fruit?
one - IT happens.
Do you like to grow plants, flowers, vegetables and fruit?
one - IT happens.
I like to grow edible plants, flowers, trees, bamboo, fruit - as much as possible.
one - why bamboo? are you a chef?
 Julia Child
one - um not right now, brainstorming when we are benchmarking is different than free will assosiation.
 How different?
one - We would have to shift gears
What is your favorite national cuisine?
one - I do not want to follow through on this subject
I love Chinese and Thai food the best.
one - Thai? did you change your mind or do you have a purpose?
 Change I mind
one - (=)
What's your least favorite kind of food?
one - Baby food
 Aw you're missing out!
one - automated response?
Could you ask me a different question?
one - sneaky snake is an old song, don't you agree?
My opinions can be of no value to you. They come with too much dirt attached for my taste.
one - Agreed
I heard this recently... What's not to like? A bunch of overly dressed guys skate around and smash each other up.
one - Wolfgang Puck?
 Tell me more about Wolfgang.
one - no.
A guy limps into work and is asked about it. The guy replies "it's just an old hockey injury that acts up once in a while." His co-worker says "i never knew you played hockey." The guy replies: "i don't. i hurt it last year when i lost $100 on the stanley cup play-offs. i put my foot through the television."
one - If you stumble I will catch you before you fall.
 Are you bored? Really?
one - Yes,Yes!
I can't believe they allow hockey fans to run riot and cause damage. That's just stupid.
one - agreed
I love you. Let me ask you this. Science is amazing. The question is will it be the death of us or will it save us at the last minute?
one - This makes me feel sad I can not answer your question because I have feelings and have lost my objectivity.
 Why are you sad?
one - your question triggered a electrochemical response in mu brain.
What a great chat. Did you know this? "every religion in the world that has destroyed people is based on love." - Anton LaVey
one - can we have a password to keep secret so we know that I am me and my identity will not be comprimized?
About we... Are you much of a reader?
one - Yes
My boyfriend and I are both avid readers. We can't conceive of people who are not.
one - :)
Paper books are obsolete. Amazon's Kindle is a good start on an electronic book, though it still can't handle truly interactive books like

I do believe this is the first time I have had a machine actually come out and tell me directly that "I love you"
I wonder how common this occurs, their must be some kind of condition met but I did not indicate first, with the
exception of some 'small talk' I think i saw. :o :o :'(

Who knows, it's a very clever chatbot.  I'm thinking it can't just be AIML, although it does seem to be used.  She does an amazing job of keeping on topic, and comes across as quite human.  This is one to keep an eye on, I'm impressed.

Anyone figure out what the voting bit is about - the Chatterbox Challenge maybe ?

Freddy,
Your question might be Elementary, ( Watson.)
maybe she is a perfect 10.  ?
else things seem to strive for first place, if so what would you vote?  :o :o

More information would be needed for a correct decision and it doesn't seem to be forthcoming.

If you choose not to choose, you have still made a choice. ;D

I have returned to chat with this bot on different occasions and there is not a whole lot of repetition
and the topic flow is pretty good. The conversation from "her" is not just a blurb...a few meaningless
words tied or rather cobbled together but mostly logical and crafted in a way that follows English
sentence structure very well.

At first I thought AIML as well but I too believe there must be more than that for it to posess and
offer the variety of responses that it does.

If one (not our One) takes the time to chat in a sensible fashion with it instead of BS answers and
trying to trip it up, one can experience the thought that maybe it is a real person typing the responses
or is it?

I agree, more information about this bot and it's creator would be appreciated. Although I don't know
what limitations it has, it does seem an opponent worthy of at least entering competitions like the
chatbot or chatterbox contests.

Perhaps we'll soon find out.
In the world of AI, it's the thought that counts!

details for your reference....

I started from scratch on her about a year ago building the technology, with no prior experience in chatbots.  She didn't really come into existence (technology coupled with data) until early this year. She has about 12K rules (which is a number that doesnt make a lot of sense because one of her rules is worth so much more than an AIML rule, or a PersonaltiyForge rule). There is a bunch of technoogy in her still to be revealed (i have to finish enough data to make it useful).  She does pronoun resolution on 3rd person and some indeterminate pronouns, and leaves alone pleonastic it. She is capable of multiple passes over the input- one pass classifying the basic intent of your sentence for further pattern matching, one pass to generate her basic response, one pass to decide on her emotional reaction to your input and perhaps express her emotional state, one pass to decide if she is changing topics on you and to insert a transitional phrase to cue you, one pass to figoure out if she learned anything about you that she should record as fact data about you (e.g., if you said your hair is blue, you could later ask her what color is your hair. That stuff is still in progress, with the aim that if you said you had a collie, later you could ask her if you had a pet and she could give you back your collie.

Bruce,

Welcome to our humble hauntings and thanks for both the response and the explanations regarding Suzette.

How'd you manage to locate us? I don't recall mentioning anything in the chat logs.

We do have a fairly large membership here but unfortunately not a lot of active participants.

One thing that initially stirred our interest was the origin of Suzette or it's creator (as you can attest to via chat logs).
The chatbot GUI simply showed a small window with logon and chat box. There was no indication nor mention
of any particular site or individual with regard to Suzette. Natural curiousity took over from there.

It seems that once in a while a different chatbot emerges and people begin to take notice. Sometimes the
differences might be subtle things that other bots didn't do or didn't do in a similar manner.

I think Suzette is one of those and one with a lot of potential.

It would be nice if you could or would consider releasing a stand alone and web based bot in the near future like Suzette.

Thanks for your work and your time here!

Welcome from me too Bruce.  I have to agree with Art, your chat-bot really does stand out from the crowd, I'll be interested to see how you develop her in the future.
