Now for the micro-controller, battery, antennas (or other means of communication), and soldering.

Nice to see your fingers!!

I went to go look at 3d printing,  worked out anything beyond 2cm^3 costs 2000 dollars, and i went nup, im making my own printer now.

I think you can now detect at which direction the brightest light source is positioned. Just measure the voltage in each sensor and do some math.

I liked this idea a lot when you suggested it. One obstacle though, the "power" lights would obscure the signaling LED pulses . Complete white-out max-out chaos for the detectors. But now I've got it!  Introduce a day-night cycle. The power lights turn on, and the robot sleeps. This charges batteries in the cubes. Once they reach a certain voltage the charging lights turn off. Then the system can wake up and work from battery power. It can be signaling in total darkness where light detection is simple. When the power drains to a certain level, the system puts it's self to sleep again to recharge. I'm excited about this development because it's getting more biological seeming in its requirements. Which I take as a good sign.
