A conversation in the works
« on: July 05, 2010, 06:47:45 pm »
I'm working on creating a page that creates and records a (limited) conversation between two bots, and I'm trying to work out the details with Square Bear (Steve Worswick) to have the initial conversation between Morti and his bot, Mitsuku. I'll keep everyone posted on the progress, and I'll be posting the transcripts and the completed page script (minus the bot access info, of course) when it's successfully completed. Once that's done, I'd like to invite any other bot owners to contact me if interested, to get their bots to have conversations with Morti.

Sounds interesting.  Myself and a friend once had two Ultra Hals talking to each other over the AIM chat service.  One was the standard Ultra Hal brain and the other was using an ALICE brain.  It was quite amusing although eventually they seemed to run out of things to say as they hung up.  Fun while it lasted.

Well, I’ve got the script up and running at http://www.geekcavecreations.com/pChat/bot/botConvo.php  but I still have some tweaks I want to make with it. I’ve noticed that sometimes Mitsuku throws out a response that Morti just can’t seem to handle, so if he comes back with a blank response, I’ve had to improvise. I think I want to change the way he handles those situations, however. Right now he just says, “I have no response to that.”, which can often lead to circular conversations. What I’d like to do is have him toss back one of the 16 possible questions from the 2010 Chatterbox Challenge. That may prove interesting.

It does prove interesting and I was impressed - they actually made a lot of sense, more than I expected  ;D

I intend to use these conversations as a way to refine and expand Morti's responses, and make him sound much more human. It may not help with the Loebner Prize, but it just may help with other chatbot contests. :)

Good idea and best of luck with it.  It does sound promising.

Indeed.

The conversations have already yielded vast amounts of valuable data that will help Morti's responses to more closely approximate human behavior. But it's going to take some time to sort through the thousands of lines of current data, and make the modifications necessary. Once I complete this round, it'll be time for another round, with a different series of "seed" questions.
