Was thinking about that, and whats your thoughts on having a section on the welcome page for the Chatterbot Collection like the DG Story?

Just an idea...

Great minds think alike!  Yes, I will be adding something on the front page too, similar to the DG story.

Well all that's sorted.  I have also done another update to the collection with a few new links.  GT40 - I have added your new bots to the collection, some of them were on there but I put in the missing ones.

Nice placement!

Mav, How's the continuing saga of Digital Girl (the story...soon to be a major motion picture...or maybe not...) progressing? Or is it?

Hi,
I'm getting a 404 on the download zip, can you help?
Title: Re: Chatterbot Collection
Post by: GT40 on May 20, 2008, 11:25:04 am

Many thanks Freddy.  :)

But now I have a big task to do: to improve them a lot.  ;D

Title: Re: Chatterbot Collection
Post by: Freddy on May 20, 2008, 01:20:15 pm
Your are welcome GT40 :)

RD - I'm thinking you mean the whole Chatterbot Collection in a ZIP file ?  Yes that file was absent.  I have placed the file on the server now so you should be able to get it.  The zip file doesn't include any downloadable programs, but there are only a few so you may not miss them much.  Just visit the online site if you come across one you want.

I just updated the Chatterbot collection with some new links.
Title: Re: Chatterbot Collection
Post by: Freddy on August 13, 2008, 01:20:53 pm
Well, as today is my birthday I decided I would unleash my new version of the Chatterbot Collection into the world.

The new site has been written in PHP so folks will need to update their favourites as explained here:

http://aidreams.co.uk/chatterbotcollection/index.htm

The main difference is that the Chatterbot Collection is now a database, which means it can be searched and should make finding things a lot easier.  Anyways, there's a full explanation on the new home page, so I won't go into detail here again.

Hope you like it.  :D

Wow!! Firstly: HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO YOU FREDDY!! Very nice gift (for us).

You wrote elsewhere you are learning PHP and working on a project. If that is the result, it's GREAT!

You made a beautiful interface and the search page works fine.

Thanks and congrats!  8) 8) 8)

Thanks GT40, you really made my day  ;D

You are correct, this was why I was learning PHP and it was indeed the project I was working on, I thought it would be a good way to start learning a new language.

Thanks for the complements and I am glad to see you appreciate the search function as this was one of the main benefits I saw in doing this.

Thanks again!  :D

Added a few more things today, still have a lot more to add, will try and get these posted asap.  Interesting climbing robot this time round and some more animation links.  Made use of the embedded video for the Zign Face capture program - let me know if that works ok.  Thanks.

I had to laugh at this comment posted by someone:

I imagine I would say something horrible too if someone called me a paedophile!

Title: Re: Chatterbot Collection
Post by: Freddy on February 06, 2009, 02:16:50 pm
I've been working on an updated version of the chatterbot collection which I think improves the interface and has a theme to match AiDreams.  If anyone would like a sneak peak and to help me test it out then please feel free to try it out :

http://aidreams.co.uk/chatterbotcollection2/

If all goes well I will replace the old system in a day or two.

• Redesigned layout and pages.
• Two new themes to match Aidreams - dark and light.
• Hopefully more effective menu system.
• Lengthy sections now split up into A-Z tabs.
• Keywords now link into search.
• Capcha system to stop spam bots.

When the site is made live, all the old links will remain unchanged, so no need to change any bookmarks or external links to the site.  So don't make any links to this trial run!

Comments appreciated, many thanks.  :)

Been testing different browsers.  These work :  IE6, IE8, Chrome.  IE7 would work too I am guessing.  Anyone got time to test Firefox, I don't have it installed at the moment  ?
Title: Re: Chatterbot Collection
Post by: Art on February 08, 2009, 02:17:59 pm
Yes,

Have had the latest version of Opera 10 and it seems to work pretty well plus it has voice reading if the user selects a portion of a web page that he / she would like read to them aloud. The voice is a slightly modified version or the L&H Michell / Michael voices.

Ok...nice gimmick but there are far better sounding voices as far as TTS goes.

Opera does have the usual bells and whistles along with a few custom ones like custom widgets. Widgets are useful(?) little web programs that perform a variety of tasks (weather, news, doodling, time/clocks, news, all sorts of things).
There are other items like Notes (on screen note writing), Transfers (for messages, files, etc.) , cookie manager, Password Manager, Pop-up blockers and lots more.

For the money...Opera 10 is a nice addition to one's browser collection (it's FREE)!! ;)
Title: Re: Chatterbot Collection
Post by: Freddy on February 08, 2009, 02:48:07 pm
Thanks Art, good to know Opera works.  Never tried that one out.  After programming the site to work in three or four browsers you start to loose the will to live.  IE is by far the worst to program for as it has so many bugs, especially in the older versions.  IE7 or 8 may be a little better, will have to see.  It was important to get IE6 working as I think it's still one of the top browsers, you start to want to campaign for people to upgrade!

Anyway's that's another one taken care of  :)

If you like gadgets then Yahoo does a nice line.  Also you will like Windows 7 as it comes with a lot of them too and you can download more.  I will post more on my Windows 7 experiences in another thread some time.

I use another statistics system that records short-term figures, this graph basically show a typical 12-24 hour time slot of what people use, so I was right about IE6.  Wonder why people don't upgrade ?
Title: Re: Chatterbot Collection
Post by: Art on February 08, 2009, 02:55:58 pm
Sorry Freddy, didn't mean to give a whole rundown on Opera but it does work nicely and thought it worth mentioning a few of it's features.

Have used Firefox 3 (and recent upgrade) for the past few days as well and the only thing odd is the very opening AI Dreams title logo box is shown at the top left of the screen (over the blue robot's head) and not centered as with all the other browsers.

Other than that one fluke, it works very well!
It too, has a lot of good features, tabbed browsing, security, encryption, privacy, pop-up blockers, etc.

That's the nice thing about "standards"...there's so many to choose from!!  ;D
Title: Re: Chatterbot Collection
Post by: Freddy on February 08, 2009, 03:12:53 pm
No problem, I found the rundown interesting and it was just nice to know it works.  I have been curious in the speech features actually so that was good as well.

Yes, there's some difference about the way the logo gets displayed, it was a minor thing I thought so haven't fiddled with it much.  I 'll sort it out at some point.  Good to know Firefox works too and yes we are spoiled for browsers!

Good news !  The Chatterbot Collection reached 3000 items today !

Also, if members hadn't already noticed, I'm pulling a feed from the collection onto the home page of Ai Dreams.  It lists the last five items added to the collection - thought it might be handy for people as they pass through.

A few new entries today, I've been a bit slack on adding new things this past month, but I have other things still to go in there.

Entries are SquareBear's Terminator (chatbot); The Open Pandora Project (developers); Cleverbot from the makers of Jabberwacky (chatbot); MakeAiml - a handy AIML generator and finally an episode of The X-Files that slipped through the net which has a story set in a virtual reality game.

GCC, I will add Morti soon too.

You can check them out in more detail on the home page here, or just head over to the collection site.

Another French chatbot today named Genesis and a nice directory of French chatbots.

I don't have an iPhone or a device like it, but I was curious as to what chatbots were available in this format.

There are loads - I just added eight to the collection that look pretty nice, although I can't test them, maybe some members have access to this kind of thing and can comment.

They range from free to very modestly priced.  I won't list them all, simply go to the Chatterbot Collection home page and you will see all the ones I just added.  Alternatively you can search using the key word itunes :

Click here to do that... (http://aidreams.co.uk/chatterbotcollection/search.php?action=submitted&search=itunes)

I would like to know what the Cleverbot HD app is like if anyone wants to stump up the $2.99 It appears to have some good reviews and it is nice to see Rollo Carpenter's company Incognito doing new things.

Well I am getting there on the Chatterbot Collection redesign.  I had a break for while, but yesterday I did quite a lot.

The Amazon part is working alright, it's finding books and DVDs on Amazon although there are the occasional odd products returned.  To be expected I suppose as I am searching by titles.  So there may be a few fitness videos pop up    It's something to live with given the limitations of the Amazon API.  I also have to be economical with how much I use the API, so that's another limiting factor.

I don't expect it to make much, but it will be handy for site costs and such.  And as Amazon really does seem to be the place to pick up bargains I think it might prove useful.

We should have her on our desktops by now lol - no I imagine it will still take a while.

I've been working on the collection today actually and keep discovering stuff I had never heard of before.  I've added a lot of new images that should appear in the gallery.

I thought this was pretty cool : Lifemode Interactive (http://www.chatterbotcollection.com/item_display.php?id=1078)

I spent a couple of days working on the back end of the site, making myself tools so I could more rapidly update the records. So I can breeze through tasks like adding missing images and descriptions.  Only about 950 English chatbots left to update ! Not to mention the other stuff.

I found a lot of dead links too, so I hope I can whip it into shape over the coming weeks.

Those Lifemode characters seem to be much better regarding realism than say the older

Few odd things added today..
Title: Re: Chatterbot Collection
Post by: Freddy on December 04, 2011, 02:49:06 pm
Two interesting bots added today. Teo an online learning bot...

Quote
Chat with Teo is highly varied and complex, because Teo draws his responses from an ever-growing multi-lingual database of remembered chats. Talking to Teo is like talking to the Internet, except that Teo is a little more polite and friendly thanks to his protective filters. Teo doesn't simply imitate. He senses emotional feedback, learns from it, and tries to get better feedback by experimenting with alternative responses. Try the cutting edge. Or forget the technology and just enjoy your conversation.
Click here for Teo... (http://www.chatterbotcollection.com/item_display.php?id=3111)

And Asri a specialised bot, who I think is our first Indonesian chatbot :

Quote
ASRI (Automatic Social Response Intelligence) is an Indonesian Language chatbot to give a psychoeducation and early detection tool of psychological problems, especially depression.

ASRI merupakan chatbot berbahasa Indonesia untuk melakukan psikoedukasi dan deteksi dini permasalahan psikologis, khususnya tentang depresi.

Hmm, possibly the learnt replies are moderated to avoid abuse ?
Title: Re: Chatterbot Collection
Post by: Art on December 04, 2011, 11:32:10 pm
Sorry but I found TEO to be anything but intelligent in even the widest scope of the word.
Most responses were not connected, often resorted to garbage like cute quips that were
neither cute nor tasteful. Using keyboard symbols to indicate swearing is also not cute
#*@&%$ if you get my drift.

I also saw no instance of memory or being able to remember and the longer i chatted
the more frustrated I became with the program.

On a scale of 5 (1 being the lowest), I'd have to give this program a 2 and that's being a
tad generous.
Title: Re: Chatterbot Collection
Post by: DaveMorton on December 05, 2011, 02:30:28 am
This particular bot is the subject of a  thread (http://www.chatbots.org/ai_zone/viewthread/726/) over atchatbots.org, where the creator of the bot more or less tells us that his bot is in the early stages of "unstructured training", and compares it to a child first learning how to speak. It's an interesting discussion, if you've a mind to check it out. I had a relavively long dialog with Teo, and also found little to recommend it at this point in time, but I'm withholding full judgment until it's had some time to "grow". Again, if you're interested, I've posted the full transcripts of my "chat" in the above mentioned thread, but it's no different from any other transcripts or descriptions that I've read so far.
Title: Re: Chatterbot Collection
Post by: Art on January 15, 2012, 01:29:54 pm
Hmm, possibly the learnt replies are moderated to avoid abuse ?

I know this thread is slightly dated but I really have issue with ANY bot that claims
to be a "LEARNING" bot when it's 'botmaster' has to FEED IT!
That's anything BUT learning!

A properly structured bot is able to learn in / from a variety of methods, from
past conversations, ability to make inferences, methods for remembering dates,
highlights, events, etc., and from Internet access (after being ran through its
internal filters for decent content and garbage rejection).

An AIML based bot is not much more than a Scripted bot, simply pattern matching
and repeating previously written lines of "dialog". But NOT learning.

This is my take and not meant to berate any other bot types as we know they
have feelings too.

Ah that's why I feel so good in Second Life. No intelligent bots needed. Just "normal" human brains and lovely girls to play with...  ::)

Maybe I could write something in the right forum, but any SL resident knows that.

I just revamped the Chatterbot Collection for the modern age. The layout was simplified and made to accommodate mobile devices too. So it has a responsive layout that adapts itself to the size of the display.

I also did a lot of cleaning up of dead links, I'm sure there are a few more, but I chopped a lot out.

Broken links no longer appear whilst browsing the categories, but they can be searched for. I thought it might be useful still to keep some record in case they come back to life.

So far most of my testing has been on my desktop but I am happy to report that it works well on my phone. I tried to make it so it works well in all kinds of screen sizes. Also making sure things that can be clicked are big enough for fingers on smaller devices.

Have a look : http://www.chatterbotcollection.com/ (http://www.chatterbotcollection.com/)

Cheers :)

GT,
How can you know for certain that some of those lovely girls in SL are actually girls and not some 40 year old unshaven man pretending to be one? Careful where you tread and with whom! ;)

Art, I agree with you. Easy to know if the resident in SL is a man or a woman (most of them are guys). Everything is in the content of the conversation.

Is it important, am I normal, Doctor? :)

Thanks Art, I am finding so many dead links. I've been through hundreds of bots. I now have 450 more to check and update  :o

Finally finished the English chatbots, over a thousand of them. A large amount were broken or abandoned, especially Pandorabots.

There's less chatbots now, but still over 650 of them. Most will now have pictures if required, and all should now have a short description.

Phew !

Now on to sorting out the articles - I want to add dates to them.

Just want to say thanks to Art for checking the non-English bots for dead links. I'm slowly working through the list you sent me. Many thanks :)

Thanks chaps. I got in the zone yesterday and just resolved to finish the English ones. I think this thread must get some views as today there were a huge amount of hits on the collection.

I also want to add images to the movies, over 700 of them and trailers too if they can be found on Youtube  :o

I spent a little time updating the Chatterbot Collection site while I was in web design mode.

Just a few cosmetic changes and I've added the Disqus platform to allow comments over there.

I also updated the gallery to use the Masonry JS script, so that works better now.

Check it out : http://www.chatterbotcollection.com/

Example of the chat here : http://www.chatterbotcollection.com/item_display.php?id=3283

Edit : I just added a Keywords list page for those items I have been tagging : http://www.chatterbotcollection.com/keywords.php

Some more tinkering - it's addictive I tell you.

I've been working on a glossary system for the CBC, so that terms and people are picked out with a short definition. They all link to Wikipedia too for further info.

The words are underlined and hovering over them should tell you about the term, person or thing of interest. Clicking on them takes you to the Wiki.

Couple of examples :

Julia (http://www.chatterbotcollection.com/item_display.php?id=1029) - Loebner and Turing.

Avengers: Age of Ultron (http://www.chatterbotcollection.com/item_display.php?id=3230) - had to get Tony Stark in there !

So that's another job to keep me busy  :idiot2:

And the work goes on. Now every article has an opening quote and all have been dated.

It was interesting going through all the articles, some date back to the 90s and even one from 1984 (taken from a magazine). You can see how the web evolved from tiny images and economical page design due to everyone being on dial up. Then as time goes on graphics and images started to get bigger and better, and page design started to become more adventurous.

I'm going to add as many trailers or video clips as I can going forward. Getting too hot to think here now  :o

Back in 2018 the Chatterbot Collection had 6,396,502 hits (https://aidreams.co.uk/forum/index.php?topic=12256.msg54591#msg54591)

I did a bit of a clean up today to check all the links work and mark things lost where applicable.

Here are the new graphs for today. Over 10 million hits now and very close to 11 million.  8)

Hi folks :)

Just a quick update: after a long hiatus, I have done some work on the Chatterbot Collection again. I've tidied things up, streamlined what I have, and optimised speed.

I have removed Disqus from the site as it wasn't really adding anything useful and was not being used much. I feel I have improved the appearance of the gallery.

I've added a few new items and will add more as time permits.

Cheers!

It may grow more because I have to catch up on over a year's worth of movies  :o
