Designing a video game.
« on: September 14, 2016, 06:22:53 am »
Hi all.

I hope this thread is in the right category.

I know you might be thinking "why are you designing a game when you have AI?" or "have no sponsor or team", but, I am. Or at least possibly. I have already drawn out some things. It would indeed give me the chance to get fame, fortune, and a great game, which would of course certainly help me get my AI built. Possibly even build the AI into the game!? I do have that business man helper guy I had met with, he may help me out.

The game would be focused on a adult level, dark, bright, powerful, high tech, glossy palaces, pumping music like no other, black liquid beings, and extreme difficulty. It would stand out like no other game even from the past. There won't be a manual or training or other informal things.

I will soon upload my sketches and link a video for a more detailed look at the "look".

You'll be able to upgrade your sword, regeneration, health bar, and ability for flight, teleportation, and shooting force.

The teleportation is extremely interesting. The enemies will too later on in. The controls for teleporting where you want and how far you want are unique - the left joystick selects the 180 degree slice of a "sphere" around you for choosing a direction, and the amount the joystick is pushed determines the distance/speed you will teleport/fly, then the angle of that slice is determined by the amount the left trigger is pushed down, fully pushed, you go down, not at all, you go up, finally, the right trigger initiates it. All why your right hand can press attack buttons.

That looks pretty interesting.  ;D

From the way you said, it seems you want a 3D game with great graphics, great gameplay, and great AI.

I have a few suggestions.

Without either a manual, training, or anything that points you the direction of the gameplay, new players will have hard time getting into the game. Even the hard game today like Dark Souls and Bloodborne needs at least a few starting information, and gameplay information without drawing the players away from it.

Take a few hints from the Steam platform. Most games get criticized for not having a tutorial and such. Player will not play any game that the game itself is not friendly with. Especially the UI (User Interface) and its design.

Beside joystick, unless you're going for a console exclusive, you should also add keyboard and mouse support on the PC version.

And if you're going to be asking for help to making a game here, or looking for veteran game programmers and developers that volunteer, you might be in the wrong place.

Thanks.
Greetings, signature.

Yes, the graphics etc will be very intriguing. I feel that any moves you discover like each button or 2 pressed down will be discovered, and that fully dragging in the players would actually result, it'd intrigue them to play this and definitely try to figure out how to get better and farther. And the teleportation controls could be explained by saying in text ex. "choose a direction, distance, vertical selection, and trigger it" Otherwise showing the controls in the game (maybe manual) is like, embarassing lol!!

Indeed, sounds interesting :)

There is an ai/game site : http://aigamedev.com/

Not sure if you want to build the engine from scratch, but Unity might be useful for you either to build it all or to develop a prototype :

Perhaps it could be similar to how the game, Portal, handled the player's "Tutorial", by allowing the player to try a few moves to see the results before actually entering the game.

Interesting concept but it sounds a bit like the older game, Heritic or Hexen with the teleportation portals...

Good luck!
