How would you go about making that game?  Each cannon uses angle and power to lob shots at each other on a flat area.    ___<_________>____.

This is a first project of mine and it's going to get deeper.  I'm a dummy with more creative sense than how-to knowledge.

I'm not familiar with the game. Is there a reason why you wouldn't always use maximum power and only vary the angle of the shot? Maybe there is a roof over the arena and you have to avoid hitting it. I take it that you can't just use physics calculations because the player doesn't have perfect information about the situation, for example, there are variable wind conditions, or there is "fog of war" in effect. Therefore I would try to emulate the way an artillery battery and its forward observers work together, applying a correction after each barrage and bracketing the target.

The online flash game "Tanks" has similar mechanics, if you want some inspiration. Though arguably that one has too many menu options, and not enough usable game physics.

I was thinking something using IRL location data.  Shots could be shot in slow mo over google map information.

I don't think that will fly well with the authorities. I'd try something thats still cool, but less risky.

That actually seems like a good point. Something along the lines of ballistic pizza delivery might be more socially acceptable.

I remember back when I first started learning Common Lisp, you could download a complete Common Lisp package called Cypress which was a real-time multi-theatre battle planning and control suite of applications. It was pulled from the internet very swiftly following the events of 9/11. This is why we can't have nice things.

No, I didn't download it so don't ask me for a copy.
