E.D.G.E - My Project!
« on: September 01, 2011, 03:36:54 pm »
Well I'm unsure how this will be received as it may not seem as big as most projects, however I will be producing a journal which I will later submit to a member of the Affective Computing Group which I have been in contact with.  This will provide a full exploration of my proposed E.D.G.E system, the Emotion Driven Game Engine.  This project means a lot to me as I believe it could create a niche in the game development industry which would later open up to potentially form the modern standard of dynamic game play.

In this journal, I will provide information under topics similar to the following:
(they obviously won't be phrased this way, and eventually some may be merged/introduced/not covered)
  • The state of the modern games industry
  • Addictive game mechanisms
  • The role of emotion when interacting with virtual environments
  • Maximization of sensory experience through emotion manipulation
  • Affective computing
  • Modelling of emotional states
  • Recognition of sentic modulation
  • Emotion recognition through basic modified computer equipment
  • Emotion recognition through semantic analysis of text input
  • Detailed explanation of game engine structure
  • Game genre/style limitations
  • Emotion driven dynamic story lines
  • Emotion driven AI interaction
  • Emotion driven dynamic environments
  • Emotion driven character abilities
  • Potential resultant addictive mechanisms

Me too, I've always wanted us to feature AI in games here; it's nice to see someone is researching it.  I look forward to hearing about your progress.

I guess you will already have heard of Grandroids ?

Nice acronym too btw  8)

Musemantik has recently developed a product called "Emrzr Sense" to aid game developers model and infer emotions.

Musemantik has recently developed a product called "Emrzr Sense" to aid game developers model and infer emotions.

I have actually heard of it! Although they have obviously opened up a whole range of opportunities for use of emotion inference, I think the approach they take to utilizing this information bypasses vital methods of almost exploiting the user's emotional state in order to maximize their game experience. I also think using sound as an example of these "Emotional-controlled game components" isn't a selling point by any means......

I guess you will already have heard of Grandroids ?

I had heard of the project, yet never really explored it! Now that he's getting so much more support, I'm definitely going to have a look. I used to play Creatures quite a lot, however I was young and never really got into the game, yet I was pretty surprised by the underlying complexity.

I'm lucky as Ai Dreams donated to the project so I get an insiders view. I can't share anything, but if Grand does any public announcements I will drop them in here.
