Help creating a name for a fake PDA from the 80's
« on: October 17, 2017, 09:49:11 am »
Hi guys,

You know that english is not my mother tongue. I'm trying to create a name for a fake (emulated) PDA. The name should sound vintage, which is a bit challenging for me (only natural english speakers can feel every nuance of a name).

Could you suggest some names please?

The usually had words like data, computer, personal, etc

DataBank
PDB - Personal Data Bank
PIDB – Personal intelligent data bank
IDB101 – Intelligent data bank
PIDO - Personal intelligent data organizer
PRIVY-O – Personal organiser
P-DOSS – Personal dossier
OGMA – Celtic mythology god of knowledge
LAO – God of wisdom
PROMETHEUS – Titan of forethought
METIS – Oceanid of wise council
TIWAS – Norse mythology known for great wisdom and knowledge
SAGA - Norse mythology known for great wisdom and knowledge
PRIV-PDO
MEMODOC
MEMDAT

Then just stick a few model/ version numbers on the end… PDB90, PIDO881, LAO100, etc.

You're my jesus!  ;D

SAGA really sounds like the name of a big fat company. So it could be something like "Saga PDB90".

Thinking about it, SAGA actually is the name of a company. Too bad.

You'd come back 3 days later anyway <= due to physics laws local overriding :)

Thank you! I can already feel the vintage' flowing through my hungry veins!

EDIT:

And a year later, you come up with the PDB 90+ which has 32Kb of RAM instead of just 8Kb... wow man!

By the way, are you Celt, Korrelan?

My father is Welsh so I suppose I’m half Celt, probably the bottom half lol.

I was born and live in Middle-earth… I mean England sorry… so easy to get the two confused.

The bottom half   ;D

8pla.net, are you suggesting "PDA" as name for a PDA? ;)

But yes, the notion of "assistant" could be present in the acronym, because this emulated PDA will have chatbot capabilities.

Would "Intelligent Life Assistant" sound strange to an english ear?

IMHO besides not sounding very vintage it sounds like it should be giving diet/ health/ relationship advice/ assistance.

Ok. Yeah, not a good idea :)

Saga IDO 90+ for "Intelligent Data Organizer" should work, right?

You can't imagine how much you're helping me, my sweet half-celt! When you have a project you care about, not being able to name it properly is frustrating.   O0

"Intelligent Life Assistant" sounds original.

Yes, thank you. I also thought it was original, but since it carries unwanted meanings (the PDA won't give diet/health advices), it doesn't fit so well.

Or maybe "Intelligent Life Organizer".

'Intelligent life assistant' has strong connotations with 'life coach'.

It's the word 'life' that is not normally associated with any kind of digital computer/ organiser/ assistant.

This is just my take of course...
