Title: Help creating a name for a fake PDA from the 80's

Hi guys,

You know that english is not my mother tongue. I'm trying to create a name for a fake (emulated) PDA. The name should sound vintage, which is a bit challenging for me (only natural english speakers can feel every nuance of a name).

Could you suggest some names please?

The usually had words like data, computer, personal, etc

DataBank
PDB - Personal Data Bank
PIDB – Personal intelligent data bank
IDB101 – Intelligent data bank
PIDO - Personal intelligent data organizer
PRIVY-O – Personal organiser
P-DOSS – Personal dossier
OGMA – Celtic mythology god of knowledge
LAO – God of wisdom
PROMETHEUS – Titan of forethought
METIS – Oceanid of wise council
TIWAS – Norse mythology known for great wisdom and knowledge
SAGA - Norse mythology known for great wisdom and knowledge
PRIV-PDO
MEMODOC
MEMDAT

Then just stick a few model/ version numbers on the end… PDB90, PIDO881, LAO100, etc.

SAGA really sounds like the name of a big fat company. So it could be something like "Saga PDB90".

Thinking about it, SAGA actually is the name of a company. Too bad.

EDIT:

And a year later, you come up with the PDB 90+ which has 32Kb of RAM instead of just 8Kb... wow man!

My father is Welsh so I suppose I’m half Celt, probably the bottom half lol. 

I was born and live in Middle-earth… I mean England sorry… so easy to get the two confused.

8pla.net, are you suggesting "PDA" as name for a PDA? ;)

But yes, the notion of "assistant" could be present in the acronym, because this emulated PDA will have chatbot capabilities.

IMHO besides not sounding very vintage it sounds like it should be giving diet/ health/ relationship advice/ assistance.

Saga IDO 90+ for "Intelligent Data Organizer" should work, right?

You can't imagine how much you're helping me, my sweet half-celt! When you have a project you care about, not being able to name it properly is frustrating.   O0

Yes, thank you. I also thought it was original, but since it carries unwanted meanings (the PDA won't give diet/health advices), it doesn't fit so well.

Or maybe "Intelligent Life Organizer".

'Intelligent life assistant' has strong connotations with 'life coach'.

It's the word 'life' that is not normally associated with any kind of digital computer/ organiser/ assistant.

This is just my take of course...

 :)

I go with the 'data' and 'organiser' and 'intelligent' for the right feel too.

Visually I think of green or even orange on a black background.

Life coaches just make me smile. So have these people been through all of life and therefore know exactly what to do at any given time ?  :idiot2:

Yeah, it also reminds me of those Books and their authors who are able to Analyze Dreams! Sure they can! They assign certain symbols, animals, cloud shapes, leaves, sticks, events, etc. as nauseum, in order to ply their babble. Their greatest gift is separating people from their money who are gullible for things like this and fortune telling.

Sorry, not meant to slam any present fortune tellers or soothsayers, psychics, mediums, spiritualists, who might be among(st) us.

But Dream Books to explain my dreams? Naw, I'd just as soon ask my chatbot what she thinks.  ;)

"IDO" sounds best to me so far.

About the interface, the idea is to simulate a big pixel backlit LCD monochrome screen, green, blue, or orange. Below it, a keyboard with plastic keys, some of which are colored differently: [AC] and [RUN] for example.

Wait...how about some nice soft, pastel-colored buttons/keys...I'm thinking Green and Black trim. That would help promote a nicer, gentler and more in touch with the earth and its rotation.

For a bit of background: The OxfordWord blog continues to explain that computers started as a complex set of analogue mechanical devices. In the 1930s and 40s, these computing devices started to use a new number system to make calculations. Instead of our normal decimal system of 0, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, and 9; these computers used a binary system of digits to represent everything. The letter B is 01000010. The letter C is 01000011. Thus, these computers became known as the DIGITAL computer.

The first PDA, the Organizer, was released in 1984 by Psion, followed by Psion's Series 3, in 1991. So coming up with a Fake 80's name for it might be the People's Digital Accountant, since is took care of providing needed numbers and solutions.

Still searching for a descriptive Fake name for the 80's PDA (which wasn't invented yet, thus "Fake"). Hmm...
