Please Take Ten Minutes To Test My Chatbot (School Project)
« on: January 25, 2014, 09:21:35 am »
I wrote a very primitive chatbot for a school project, but I need at least thirty people to test it before Monday. Can I ask you to take five minutes to download the program here and test it? Simply follow the instructions below. Thank you for your help!

1. Download ChatbotExperiment.zip from SourceForge. Both "ChatbotExperiment.jar" and "memory.chat" must be placed in the same folder for the program to work. I suggest creating an empty folder for the files.

2. Run "ChatbotExperiment.jar" (you must have Java installed) and follow the on-screen instructions. Talk to the chatbot until it has replied 25 times (it replies almost instantly so this will be a very short conversation).

3. Participate in the short survey that appears after the conversation is over. Entering your gender and age is NOT required, but it is appreciated as it will help me gather data for my project. If you do not feel comfortable sending me the results with your personal email address, you may paste the complete results to this thread, though I can assure you I will not save any of your email addresses and I will not distribute them to anyone else.

I'm very grateful for any participation I receive. Please take a short amount of time to help out a beginning computer science student.

Thanks!

Hi and welcome :)

As this involves a download I would just like to assure other members that the file downloaded from SourceForge seems safe. I scanned it in MSE and also via an online service and it was given the green light. There is no installer it just runs in JAVA and it only makes a couple of files like a log and also the transcript of the chat with a break down of how you rated the bot.

Jake, I completed the exercise and have emailed my results to you. It was a bit short notice but I hope it will help you. If anyone else wants to help it only takes about 10 minutes, you don't need to track the number of exchanges, that aspect is recognised as it happens.

P.S. I also ran a virus scan after using it and it was all clear. Sorry to be so suspicious Jake but these days it's just not worth the risk.

Thanks for checking Freddy. I wouldn't have tried it otherwise. A post asking us to download and run something from a member with 1 post is always suspicious.

Jake - I've also run your chatbot and sent you the output. Good luck!

I'm very grateful for the help. I was banned on another site because they thought it was malware. I of course completely understand your suspicion and was worried people might be too cautious to help me. Perhaps I'll start linking them to this thread to prove my good intentions.

Thanks!

I cannot express how grateful I am for everyone's feedback. I'm continually updating the memory file based on your results. One day I hope to perhaps learn better techniques from professionals of artificial intelligence design.

Just a quick bump, this is the last day before the due date, and I still need fifteen more people. So if anyone else is interested, it only takes about ten minutes. I'd be very grateful for any further assistance.

Jake,

Is this correct? You posted on Saturday here asking for help for a project that's due on Monday?
Doesn't this sort of stress you out a bit?

Did you post at chatbots.org and vrconsulting.it/vhf to see if there might be some other volunteers?

Best of luck and really not to bad for a hand written bot first timer!

It's a long story, but basically I didn't know about the number of people I had to find before Monday. I was thinking about ten, my teacher was thinking about thirty. We had a miscommunication.

I've posted at vrconsulting and I've requested an account at chatbots.org.

And thank you for your kind words.
