The Theory of Mind
« on: January 19, 2015, 10:07:03 pm »
I have decided to throw out to the public my observations and theories regarding the work of the human brain, later on put in analogy with machines in order to shed some light on how these 'findings' could affect the field of Artificial Intelligence.

P.S. I am no certified researcher and posses no diploma of this field. My work is entirely out of love and curiosity, driven also by the desire  to help mankind in a way Tesla once did. Also the writing is obviously not on the level of an official research paper and the language is maybe a bit juvenile - sadly English is not my first language therefore my expression of thoughts is limited.

Edit: I request this topic be moved to 'General AI Discussion'.

Hy Ultron7 :)

Nice theory about essential level, but I predict a lot of work that still needs to be done on higher level of making artificial decisions.

Tuff stuff, this general meaning of AI institution ain't it? But I love it. :D

Actually, the point is to leave that 'higher level' work to the A.I. itself ;)
Humanity didn't start out as it is today, did it?

And thank you for your feedback, I'm glad you like it :)

I don't get it... You mean like all logic rules and other stuff to be induced by itself? Pretty ambitious, if that's the case....

I realize I may be unclear, especially with this long yet hard to understand theory file, so let me shed some light...

My Jarvis project is a sort of, proof-of-concept program which if functional could pave the way for a new generation of AI programmers with a different approach. It would simply prove the theorized way of how our mind understands and responds to the advanced languages of the today - by patterns(sentence shape and context) . If not it should at least present a new method of NLP which will hopefully be more efficient and dynamic.

However that is just one of the theories presented by this paper. Somewhere in there I have stated that a computer cannot mimick the human mind unless it can have similar experiences as us (thus it would be required that this machine can sense everything we can). Perhaps a robot like the fictional Data, as I previously mentioned somewhere.

The theory expands beyond human species. If I wrote it better, it would be clear to you that (theoretically) the simplest of organisms evolved into something we cannot even explain completely, simply by adapting to nature and growing according to it's needs. This is probably how we all learned our instinctive reactions, and all essential data for survival has been passed on to us from many generations. This is actually also suggested by some biologists.

So I would like to observe this process of evolution (accellerated) in an artificial life form. But not yet :)

Edit: I hope this makes more sense then the mess at Google Drive xD

Interesting :)

Have you ever gave a thought to instinct? Would instinct find a way to Jarvis?

Indeed I have.. I believe it could be incorporated into artificial machines,  though never in a same way as it works with us - this is due to our organic nature which makes this possible.

We posses a special section in our mind called the H... (neurologist input required) which constantly looks out for danger, even when we sleep and it is also the first part of our body to respond to a threat.
It would take too long to 'invent'  a new response,  so in faith of efficiency and crucial speed it resorts to some default reactions which we refer to as instinctive.

Now I assume that instinct goes a bit deeper than this,  therefore I cannot tell if AIs will ever develop a true instinct,  which involves more then responding quickly to threats.

But this ability we posses can indeed be passed on to machines,  in the form of a lag free,  fault-proof dedicated processing unit which will be hooked up to several sensors and keep a small database of defensive responses.  These can even come in the form of a firewall responding to software viruses.

P.S.  This is the second time I write this,  and I will not shy away from re-stating how much I hate small touchscreen keyboards.
