Jan,
The bottom most image is not showing on your site. Just a nudge....

BTW Geek, I'm from the east coast of USA...more exacting would be the Peoples Republic of Maryland. :jpshakehead:

It's working here.  I read that post of yours about Metro last week, seems like a nightmare.

And I'm from England in the UK.

I read that post of yours about Metro last week, seems like a nightmare.

It was a big disappointment. I just can't understand why MS would change the programming interface in such a way that it breaks code compatibility with regular windows, and that for basic things like files and threads. There is even less compatibility between metro and regular win 8 compared to android/linux and win 8. I guess they are trying to force something,... I don't think metro has much of a change of survival, especially if it has to compete against regular win 8

I was thinking about making a metro/Rt app. after reading your post Bragi, I may just reconsider that thought.

Me too Geek,  XNA was pretty good.  I made a 3d animated head with it.  I was going to dive back in again, but then read they had abandoned it, so I won't bother now.

Personally, my friends and I are and have been avoiding Windows 8 like the plague!

Sometimes these "improvements" seem to happen when things simply weren't broken to begin with.
It's all about the money.

I've been using win 8 for a month now. It took an awful lot of hacking, but I managed to get it to look and feel mostly like win7/vista, and I must admit I'm starting to like the speed.
There are currently 3 things different from my older OS:
Other than that, the most important thing you notice is the speed, it's A LOT faster than vista. It's like having a new pc, but for 30$. I waited a little while until after I loaded up most of the applications that I use, cause well, you know, a fresh os is always fast, until you put on VS, office and a bunch of other crap. But this time, speed appears to be holding, so I'm pretty happy.
All in all, I think MS 's major error with the win8 release is that they went 'touch' crazy.

I personally like windows 8 a lot as well, I have not used any hacks unless you call Ultra Hal, Rain Meter, and a few batch files hacks :) I just need to get organized a bit better and create some directories in-order to stop creating desktop icons that clutter my desktop. old habits are hard to break :(

sometimes I stil accidentally start a typical win 8 app like 'weather' getting out of those is a nightmare if you don't have a touch screen.
Though there is no button to close them, I don't find it a nightmare to close them. I move my cursor the top of the screen, click and drag app till your cursor is at bottom of screen and release mouse button. Takes some effort, but not a nightmare for me. though I rarely ever use the windows 8 apps with one exception, I the Skype app daily. I mostly leave it open in a side window to the right of my desktop.

in my final statements I will say that windows 8 is not for everyone, and if you have a os that does what you need, and your content with it, there is no need to change.

Bragi "... it's A LOT faster than vista. "

EVERYTHING is a lot faster than VISTA!!

I was referring to (and still using) Windows 7. It works fine without a burp or bump in the road.
Win 8 was MS hoping to change the feel to a more "APP LIKE" environment. A lot of people didn't
fall for it.
Yes, to each their own...heck I even have a Linux box running without a hitch and it "just works!"

There are many vehicles one can choose to ride while on the journey. O0

Windows 8 does have an SSD optimisation (TRIM) built in, quite a good reason to have it.

If you are using HDD only than probably not worth the up-grade.

I already had win7 disk so when I bought my alienware I went for win8. Its took a little adaptation but it aint all that bad.

I haven't attempted any development on the platform as I am working on android stuff at the moment but no major complaints yet.

I would rather have linux but it doesnt lend itself to my work right now lol.

I've just been stung by Windows 8 up-grade, got a new motherboard, CPU and RAM but cannot activate Win 8 on it, it is telling me that my code has already been used and can’t be used again but not to worry because I can get a new code through windows for just £189.

No I am not going to buy another copy of 8, back to win 7 for me.

I've heard that MS is also tightening up on office licenses...
