Female robots?
« on: July 20, 2019, 11:39:48 am »
I'm looking into the gender distribution in robot designs, but I'm having a hard time thinking of female robots (excluding cyborgs, replicants, and sex robots). So far I've got Rosie (Jetsons), Ava (Ex Machina), Eve (Wall-E), Sophia (Hanson Robotics), HRP-4C (Japan), Aiko (Japan), Pepper (Aldebaran Robotics). Which others do you know?

This is like asking how many toasters are pink, and how many are white?
Because humans are attracted/repelled from faces, it makes you so concerned about such negligible worries haha.
However, robots are important, just like us. But just like us, their appearance means little.

Why a male or female? How will I think about seeing either?
To create one for you or others' joy or war defense to see or hear or feel, or simply not for joy or pain but regular passing by, is a simple decision among humans.

There were female robots in Automata, and lets not forget Maria, Metropolis.

The little girl, Eva, in this Spanish Sci-Fi release was a robot.

The Ship's computer in the original Star Trek had a female voice, although technically not a robot per se.

MOTHER, the ship on Farscape was female but more of a controlling entity/space ship kind of being.

Android on SyFy's Dark Matter was obviously female.

The Female Terminator, Cameron, on TSCC (The Sarah Connor Chronicles) - Summer Glau

Battlestar Galactica. If I remember correctly, that show had a surprising number of Cylons. I'd guess half of them were female.

I forgot the movies, Stepford Wives, Cherrie 2000 and one of my favorites, Bladerunner with those beautiful replicants, Rachel and Pris.
The female "Hosts" of which there were many in the HBO series, Westworld and the TV series, HUM∀NS.
More recently, Alita - Battle Angel.

I'm sure there are many more out there.

Since were doing movies, what about simulations? Don't forget my human female baby that was jiggling like a real baby!

The game Primordia is maybe a little obscure, but it has female robot/AI characters.  Clarity Arbiterbuilt is one of the most prominent ones.  You can get acquainted with her in this video (contains spoilers for the game):

Don,

Setting my memory aside for a moment, I took the next logical step and did some searches for you to choose from:
89 Artificial Females in Movies & TV
https://www.imdb.com/list/ls063279126/

List of fictional gynoids
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_fictional_gynoids

More than one might realize...

Good luck with your distribution project. O0

I liked Alita Battleangel,  because if I made a woman robot, it wouldn't be for sick things, so you might as well make her soldier just like the boys, (ok we are getting annoying now) except she has distracting devices on her chest,  so maybe if you put machine guns on em, then they can look right into the barrel of the gun that's going to lead to their demise.

Okay, thanks guys. I'm going to have to look some of these up, but I've got enough material now :)
