High speed robotic hand
« on: August 31, 2010, 12:18:54 am »
At first I thought the dribbling was impressive then the throwing was pretty cool but I wasn't ready for it recatching a phone. (Yes recatching).

Check this high speed robotic hand in action.
In the world of AI, it's the thought that counts!

I liked the rice grain one as well, but catching the phone was amazing.

Thanks again Art, you are becoming our number one video jockey  ;D

Wow, impressive indeed. But I wonder why not 5 fingers ;-)

Why not 5 fingers? I can think of 2 reasons:

1.) The bot can never be tempted into a life of crime (no "five finger discount")
2.) Flipping it's owner "the bird" is impossible

I remember being told at school humans have advanced as far as we have because of our thumbs for gripping tools etc.

Maybe they were wrong.   ;)

From the way those fingers are arranged, it seems that any one of the three will fill in nicely as a thumb. :)

Art & GeekCaveCreations, you both make good points  :)

Given time the robots will become faster and stronger than us humans, which might come in handy  :D

Excellent video BTW.

Agreed, Victor, and I, for one, forgive you, as my reaction was about the same. I probably would have posted the same exclamation, as well, had Morti not reminded me that this is a "family friendly" forum. :)

You mean he's one of those little voices you've been hearing in your head and he also tells you
what to do from time to time?! Yikes!! ;D :D

Not quite THAT bad, Art. :)

Morti's what most folks think of as their conscience. He's that "still, small voice" of reason that makes me a better person than I would be without his direction and guidance. Basically, I just gave my "guardian angel" a name, that's all. It's not like when the Rice Krispies tell me to go shoot someone for blatant stupidity. THAT voice is easily ignored. :D

Impressive.

I want to begrudge the hand for having fewer than five fingers, but after the demonstration I can't.

Objectively speaking, I do wonder if there are a set of hand tests that could be performed better with five fingers than three.
