A bit of unsettling news

Russian New robotic weapon surprised the world

For those who wish to believe the military's efforts with robotics is harmless.  I confess to not being able to figure out how to actually get it to play on here so you will have to click the link.

Well, autonomous tanks are realistic enough. Interesting that they can choose strategic positions. I'd say it's not chess AI we have to be concerned about, but chess AI with guns mounted on. Actually, just guns.
CO2 retains heat. More CO2 in the air = hotter climate.

Perhaps better in the interest of safety would be similar to one person as pilot of an RC plane or quadcopter using an FPV (First Person View) system.
This is a headset that the remote operator uses to "see" what the plane sees as it flies. Similarly, an FVP operator would completely control a remote tank. Since a typical battle tank uses a crew of 4 people, it would save 4 from being in direct harms way and require only 1 person as controller. This also eliminates any human risk factor (for the tank crew).

Ahh yes...war is hell...as the saying goes.

Human controlled for now until they figure out a way to feasibly bypass that need with AI. When that happens they will probably improve performance. But it will also open it up being hacked remotely.

But this is remote controlled and not the Terminator.
I say we ban cars, as they kill thousands of people every year...

They are trying to make cars self driving and if all of them go that way then there will be fewer accidents. It is all about saving lives while improving performance. However nice we may want war to be it will never be free of human causalities. It is people dying that makes it ugly and no amount of robots is going to make that part go away. .

Good luck with that when the car decides to reboot as it heads towards a cliff!

But won't it be reassuring knowing you have technology with you all the way?!  :2funny:

That sort of thing is exactly why we should think twice about the wonderful world of computers and robots. computer programs and Computers in general are notorious for screwing up. Anything linked to the cloud is hackable (and internet in general). The cloud is misleading as it makes people assume that it is in this nebulous place free from tampering when it is really just someone else's server.

I really never liked the term cloud. I don't think people are so daft as to need the word 'server' to be dumbed down to something white and fluffy.

On the other hand I use YouTube a lot and can confirm that there are plenty of idiots out there.
