Title: This is greater than Us
Post by: Ultron on February 07, 2015, 09:35:38 pm
I have recently stumbled upon this very inspiring video, in terms of social behavior.

This kid did not really 'invent' anything knew so they may be overrating that part but nevertheless he spent 5 years finding a way to make this cheap because his ultimate goal was not profit or personal benefit - his goal was to help people in need and close the doors of companies abusing people in unfortunate positions, such as those who have lost a limb a they have only one option if they want to replace it - that is, pay over $60.000 which is ridiculous.
So the kid took his 5 year project and made it open-source - people can now 3D print their new limb and power it with free software. This is the act I respect.

If I were religious I'd say the people behind such companies should and will burn in hell (this includes doctors who make use a person's misfortune and trust), but since I am note I just hope these people will fail to breed because we don't need such a society.

Anyhow, the link: http://uproxx.com/technology/2015/01/easton-lachappelle-luminary/ (http://uproxx.com/technology/2015/01/easton-lachappelle-luminary/)

Edit: I forgot to explain the title, so let me...

Our actions is what makes us who we are (or rather, they are our reflection) however one man can only do so much. But luckily we have the minds and power to create something that can do a lot more good that us - and that invention is what makes us greater than ourselves - it is, greater than Us.

That was definitely one of those "Feel good" articles that, for a moment, helps to restore our faith in humanity. This young man's outlook and attitude is exemplary and his career is certainly one to watch.

While I am happy for him and his accomplishments, I am appalled by these for-profit companies who make their fortunes by squeezing every dollar they can from the unfortunate victims of accidents and unfortunate circumstances, as well as the well-intentioned insurance companies who must pay out those exorbitant amounts! It's no wonder that the health care industry is suffering!

You go Easton, we'll be watching!!  ;)

Good find Ultron7!! O0
