Will there any jobs left
« on: October 21, 2015, 08:53:11 pm »
It is starting to look more and more like the only jobs that will be left is that of a mechanic and fixing robots. I love technology but when is it going to be enough? Soon there nothing left to do but get fat.
So sue me

Sometimes, I wonder if the jobs are just not there any more, and technology is being blamed.  When the unemployed are sent for technology job training, it seems their technology skills are all updated, which is cool, except they just can't use them for work.

For another thing, Blue collar workers have dwindled in the past 30 years. Everyone wants a high-paying job doing whatever it is as long as they don't have to get their hands dirty or do some laborious task.

The trades have lost so many that a lot of things that were common place are now scarce. Find a tailor, seamstress, printer, mason, weaver, shoe repairman, etc. Some of these items are now disposable and no need for someone to fix them as their outsourced cost makes it cheaper to simply buy new.

Yep, no one does troubleshooting any more, they are now glorified board swappers, or like the above example, just buy a new one.

Should have bought stock in plastic 30 years ago! I'd have been retired 15 years earlier!

Don't worry...stay tuned and look around. The old shall become as new.

That argument is true to a point but i am pointing out a possible future senerio. With the advances in robotics that are coming and AI being fought over by big companies like IBM and Google it is not a hard leap to image a world with few jobs left that are not done by a robot.

Maybe at some point common sense will kick in: We don't want to do the dirty jobs, but we do need food, exercise and something to do. As long as we provide the latter three, it doesn't matter if there are 'jobs' left. But the entire economic system would have to wake up to that first.

Ya well I am not going to hold my breathe on that possibility for the usa as there are too many idiots running the county and to many more that elect them every four years.

On a side note i am not going to say which side i think is the idiots.

When the people do not trust and actually fear the government we elected to govern us, then it's time for a new government! This can be applied to all countries.

Found something good for Raven's thread.... Singers may be losing jobs, next...

In particular, the voice synthesis and robotic face technologies demonstrated in this video are something Freddy may enjoy.

The lipsync seems accurate.  Even in a language I don't speak, it appears correct to me.  Unlike all digital computer animation lipsync... In the real world, these robotic visemes must be motorized and synced to the audio phonemes.

And of course, kudos to the human singer for training the robot.  Maybe some new jobs will be created... Human robot trainers.

Cool robot. I do hope that they use some common sense with robots. As fun as they are nothing is more frustrating then having to deal with one over the phone lol. I dislike customer service bots as they are kinda stupid and not well programmed. Every-time i have to call charter i have to tell it several times agent to get a real person.

Ya right lets be little perfect gods in robot bodies. Sorry but humans tend to look out for their own self interest and many times it is at the expense of others. Frankly the thought of living forever with a bunch of fellow imperfect humans scares the hell out of me.
So sue me
