What about 'Todays' Plug-ins
« on: May 03, 2017, 12:34:38 pm »
Taken from an article online:

What's ahead?

So what option do we have today without plugins?

Flash already being replaced and is getting replaced by HTML5 videos, sites like YouTube now openly uses html5, animations are now possible with css3 and html5 canvas.

Silverlight: Microsoft already stopping development of Silverlight and Netflix which was the first user of Silverlight now moving to html5.

java: already proved too dangerous for a Web browser, it usually integrates the entire application in a Web browser. At the moment lots of development is going on to entirely replace java.

Unity3D especially used for playing 3d games game in a browser now being replaced by WebGL.

Google Earth plug-ins: again WebGL.

Google audio-video: Google audio/video still used by hangout and other audio video calls on chrome but will be replaced by WebRTC (real-time audio-video communication).
In the world of AI, it's the thought that counts!

I found Silverlight clunky and very hard to get into and understand.

HTML5 seems to be the future of a lot of things. I'm not sure what MS' policy is on updates to Edge these days, but for the most part general cross browser compatibility seems a lot better than it was. With newer things like HTML5, there's new challenges of course.

I don't really use Java much, there's the odd program I have that uses it.

WebGL is an interesting thing that might redefine what a browser can/should do. The app that does everything !
