Windows XP ends early 2014
« on: August 12, 2012, 12:21:08 pm »
That’s right, its official, XP users have 20 months remaining (from today) to switch over to Windows Vista, 7 or 8.

All support including security up-dates will be stopped on April 8, 2014.

XP “die hards” will have to seriously think about changing their OS if they wish to remain safe on the web, hackers and those nice people that make viruses know there are plenty of users who refuse to change, they will sit and wait for the end date then make some nice new hack or virus, safe in the knowledge that Microsoft will not patch the OS.

You have been warned  O0

I only use xp to run my scanner now. I am surprised they are supporting  it for so long to be honest. Still that bodes well for the longevity of W7 :)

Oh no!! Nearly 20 years with Windows 3.1, 98 SE, XP. Time to buy a Mac...

(lots of my SL friends are very happy with their Mac) ;D

Yes Freddy I agree W7 should be ok for a good few more years, at the same time Microsoft don’t want to find themselves in the same situation as they did with XP, they tried to stop support for it in 2010 but couldn’t because of all the XP die hards.

Now they have a newer users agreement, which enables them to pull the plug easier, my guess would be W7 will not last anywhere near as long as XP did.

XP was released in 2001, in computer terms somewhere in the 16th century. I make that 11 years old, you know I can’t think of many modern devises that last as long as that, MS have done us all proud.  8)

Yeah you never know GT, you might be able to find an 11-year-old Mac somewhere for SL, you would like that, I can tell.  ;D

I'm one of the XP die-hards.
Love the OS.  hate to see it die.
Win7 not stable 'nough for my haptek programing.
Oh well, I find win8 is program fine and should be out before end of XP.
Also win8 handles Hal Windows.
My characters arn't worried.    :)

Good idea Data. I will try to find on eBay a Mac from 2003, the year SL began. But vintage computers are sooo expensive.

If anyone is interested in my Atari 800XL, the last time I used it, it worked perfectly ($2000, 0 bid for now).

BTW cool "work" Dusky. 8)

Agreed, very good artwork on the background and bodyskins.
For me Xp was very good for hal and haptek, with Vista both worked bad, used a dual boot vista, XP.
With win 7 I noticed IE running in the background interfers and dragon interfers but still use haptek and hal.
The computer manufacture it seems is going to wait until Win 8 is released if and when they provide updates.
One other thing, I use the HapRegestry and car.exe together when working with the character
