DAZ Studio 4 Free
« on: June 26, 2011, 02:49:19 pm »
I guess most of you will have seen this, but I thought I would post about it.

Simply that they recently released version 4 and that it is free until 07/31/2011 - that's the 31st July 2011.

The Daz Studio always used to be free, but it looks like they will charge now, albeit a lot less than similar products like Poser. On the actual product page it lists the regular price now as $49.95, so you may as well grab it now even if you have no immediate use for it.

Daz Studio 3 Advanced is still being sold, presumably they will introduce an Advanced version of DS4 too.

Also noted whilst there that they also sell Crazy Talk too now.

Already have it downloaded, and I'm playing with it now. First impression is "Oh, my, GAWD!" I love this thing! I'm thinking I'll have to re-create my study in DS4, and see how it renders. :)

I'm holding off installing it as I am waiting to find out if it will install okay on another drive other than C.

Wish I had time to play around with something like DAZ studio.

Might download it, just in case.

It's a great pass-time, it comes in phases for me, sometimes I can't put it down.

BTW, a couple of people on the Daz forum told me it works fine on a different drive to C.

Told myself don't have time for another program but then thinking lot of obj's come from DAZ3D.
So downloaded version 4 and other freebee's they had.
No space on this computer so put on flash drive for win7 laptop which has few hundred empty GBs.
I thank you for headsup on this.  It may fit in with my other graphics.   8)

I can assure you that it does. For years now, I've kept a strict separation between the OS, programs, documents, and other data, by keeping them on different physical drives. It initially took me several hours of poring through the registry to make it work, but now everything "plays nicely" in discrete locations, without a single problem. Thus, Studio 4 is in E:\Program Files\DAZ 3D\DAZStudio4 :)

Cheers.  Yes since getting a bigger HD a few months back I tend to keep the big programs on a separate partition. I'll install Poser on there as well - all neat an tidy :)

I also used to have my apps and windows on separate partitions, but I kept bumping into disk limits and eventually got tired of all the house keeping that it requires. These days, I try to spend as little time as possible maintaining the system, so everything goes into the places ms wants them  :-[

For DAZ4, how in gods name do you get extra people in there? I downloaded/installed a bunch of  them, but I only get to see 'genesis' I think it is.  Anyway, I'm pretty impressed with the output quality of these 3d images, I just can't seem to find the patience for creating them. It's just not my nack.

I was having the same problem until I noticed that in the right-side flyout is a tab labeled "Content Library", where all of my DS3/Poser files are found. That menu is much like the DS3 content layout, so it's not hard to locate stuff if you know where everything is.

Ah good, that probably solved a lot of frustration for me at least.  I still have my custom runtimes all set up so I just need to point DS4 at them when I need them.

Well first impressions...are wow how much faster it seems to be than DS3, my new HD may have helped a little.  I like the way they have different layouts, though at first I didn't get it - I stuck to the default one it offers at the beginning. I think I will enjoy this.

Dave, it looks to me like Daz have taken up using a Runtime folder (like Poser) rather than the old 'content' directory. Is that the way it looks to you ?
