Probably one of the most well know 3D renderers, they also provide a free Personal Learning Addition...

This is lacking a few of the full features and also renders with watermarks, but it's a usefull way of learning how to use
a top end renderer, or to try out before you part with your cash.  You'll need a recent version of QuickTime as well to make this function, and unless you are on broadband the size of the download might be too large.
