Free 'lite' version of 3DMAX
« on: July 07, 2005, 08:12:27 pm »
I found this when looking for renderers, it's aimed at gamers, but uses a trimmed down version of 3Dmax.
It's free, you just have to register and it's a fairly small 20MB download.
I thought it might be used for making HTR's possibly, but whatever, it's a nice piece of kit.

As mentioned, GMAX is primarily a development tool / program for gamers and as such the creations are of a sort of "blocky" nature.

The program will let you design an object and apply materials but you can not render within the confines of the program. You have
to export the model to another program and perform a render there.

I believe there is a free render prog out there for GMAX but can't recall at present.

Google GMAX and look for one of the forums.

No way to do any HTR files either. I believe that's strickly a Haptek file extension.

Thanks for that info, Art, I was wondering why I couldn't find  a render option.  Yes, I assumed it would need further use of the haptek converter software or other.  It looked useful, I still haven't had time to give it much of a look, I'm spending more time on blender at present.

I believe the rendering program that will work with it is called
Now3D
It is available as a free program. Slightly over 3.5 megs.

Very nice looking results! afro.gif
