Id say it would be ordinary camera based.

That's very impressive, also the lighting/shadows as well as the actual tracking. Good find  O0

No probs.
Its got a pretty good realtime raytracer running, makes the cg look pretty impressive.

But I have to say I have never seen a better tracking system - it ridiculously beats down any 3D 'hologram' glasses which are supposed to track extremely accurately in order to make their 3D renders realistic.

Cheaters? Kinect is a couple of cameras. Why is that cheating? I think there is certainly more than one way to accomplish any goal. It's what works the best for you or whomever.

You definitely could use a kinect, plenty of people do,   but it would end up as a less adaptable robot,   if you take shortcuts. imo
