Does Blender work hand in hand with possibly hal?
Not in a hundred years, Heather. Haptars are special encrypted .obj-files. Haptek uses Bzip2-compressor for that, or so they claim at Haptek. They have done their best to prevent that anybody can mess with their stuff.
Personally, I believe we will have to work on the long term towards our own graphical environment for displaying avatars. Such an engine should use models in a format that have no copyright-restrictions. I know this sounds complicated and radical, but things like that have been done before by semi-professionals.
Btw, thanks for so graciously lending admittance to your ftp-server.

Blender is a brilliant freesource graphics program with lots of upgrades and plugins.
You can export from it to programs like max3d, but at the end of the day you need max3d to do
the kind of thing Arakus is doing.
Neverless, I thought blender was very worthy of a mention here and support, as once you have used
it and seen what it can do you might wonder why you'd want to spend 100's of pounds on commercial
software. Only time will tell but blender just grows and grows.

I'd found the Bzip2 and downloaded it, by draging the file into the program it created a compressed file, I was unable to compress more than one file at a time.
