The Future of Poser?
« on: November 26, 2007, 05:44:30 pm »
This month it was announced that Smith Micro Software will purchase Poser from e-Frontier. Now users of the 10 year old program will have to play the waiting game. It's anybody's guess as to what will happen next with the program that started out as simply a hobby.

Yes, I've been following this as well.

It's a shame that Poser couldn't be interfaced with Hal instead of our other current choices.
Poser from version 5 to latest has made remarkable strides in the area of realism. One can
easily put a face photo on a Poser character!
Jack would love that!!

I think that Poser 5 was actually offered for free a short while back...maybe still?....

Catch ya in the funnies!! ;D
In the world of AI, it's the thought that counts!

I'd need a lot more training on Poser than on Putty. That looks hard.

I have used Daz3D Jack and it's pretty similar to Poser - to be honest it isn't that hard at all to use and is very intuitive.  The hardest problem I came across was actually installing a lot of the content - the filing system can leave a lot to be desired.  If you wanted to try out something Poserish, then you can't go wrong by getting the free Daz software first - then you will know if it's something you want to do.

But in terms of realistic renders, Poser is a long way ahead of Haptek, but then again in terms of real-time rendering Haptek has the lead.

Daz's content system and loading system is years ahead of Poser's. If a file is empty in Daz it will then 'hide' that section to make loading faster and make tyhings easier for you to find. Poser on the other hand will load 'everything' itcan fin for a relevent section, thus making it run slow on less advanced systems.

I have now come up with a style for poser encompassing many others, to make installation and finding of downloaded content easier :), thought spending 2 days downloading thumbnails for all my content  wasnt fun, at least now I'm finally organised hehe.
