Glad I popped in tonight when I did! I would have missed it if I hadn't. Thanks KynteTripper! :) I always wanted to learn Poser.

I signed up but can't download. All night last night and all day today it said that the connections are full or something. :( I hope the download IS available "indefinitely" and doesn't end up 404 URL on me when their servers are less bogged. :(

I tried this morning and their server was down, must be a gazillion downloads.   Bryce 5 is through today at:

I got Bryce 5 myself, just didn't get a chance to install it. I'd like Poser, but now, I STILL can't download it. I get a blank page instead of the download limit page. :/

Yes, their servers are STILL busy but since I've already registered for it, I think I'll most likely be able to download it around October...

of NEXT YEAR!!!! :tickedoff

I know what you mean. :( That can give that site a bad reputation of trying to deliver something it can't. :(

I'll keep trying but maybe once a week or something.

I see you all found Bryce 5 was free - I managed to download it today even though it is past the deadline I was sent.  You might have to be registered as the link I followed was from an email sent by the DAZ people.

I tried Bryce, not bad. I haven't really had time to dig into it or even try Poser 5 though (which I also finally got with it's extras as well). I'm trying a trial of PhotoShop CS2 and am unimpressed. I hear PSPP XI is out and an upgrade to PSP X which I use. But I hear bad things about the upgrade not being worth it and being buggy, so who knows. If one tries, one COULD do 3D in PSP, but it's easier I think in programs like Bryce and Blender (which I have an older version of and alsoa  Book/CD (CD has an older version than I have) which I STILL never got around to getting to.

So many toys... so little time. :)

Yeah! Too bad there's only so many hours in a day.  My research into haptek animation
has fallen by the wayside, since i started trying to learn about polygonal mesh construction
and real-time animation using Poser. Not to mention I still have my graphics project that
I'm working on in conjunction with hologenicman's A.I. project over at VHumans, which
is of course tied into the first bit. Plus I'm trying to get the hang of Blender, Shade and
Bryce. I haven't even installed my copy of VUE yet.    :idiot2  :grin
Yep, just not enough time to learn it all so that it's usable when I need it. Which by my
calculations was last week some time.  :grin

What's Shader like Thom and what's it good for ?

Shade 7 or 8, depending on which you can get is used for 3D modeling and
polygonal mesh figure construction. The meshes created can then be textured
and exported for use in Poser, Bryce & Vue as well as one or 2 other programs.  :afro

To quote tthe info on e frontier's site in  reference to Shade 8:

"Shade 8 Standard is a powerful 3D Modeling & Rendering Software for use in

                         Architectural Design

                         Product Design  &

                         Character Modeling"

Hmm, better see what the newer Bryce can do first.  The newest Blender is stable by the way, I don't think it has crashed once here yet, which is good for Blender.  Got a lot of work to do....mmmm

I just posted in the Sound and Vision Poser area in the topic Tom started for Poser renders. I made a new Poser-based wallpaper. :) It takes awhile to learn Poser 5 though. I had a hard time getting the hair right, then the eyes I had to make my own texture. The hair I had to do more work in Paint Shop Pro X. I did other post-processing in PSP X as well. Turned out ok... I guess. :)

This is my first Poser head though.

Anyone know how to make these into haptars for use in Ultra Hal Assistant?

FD,

You can save your finished texture then import in as a picture into People Putty and apply
it to a customized face.

Cool! Now to save up to buy Peaple Putty. :/ BTW, this will import the face texture but what about the hair and clothing? That's the thing - I want the whole thing, not just the face texture though.

However, I THINK I might have an idea... like taking a full-face snapshot and using Paint Shop Pro X's Polarizer filter to "unwrap it" and create a texture that way... That just may work...

However, I have other things I need to spend $$ on so People Putty will have to wait for awhile. But good to know at least one can do this.

FD,
People Putty comes with a variety of head shapes that one can modify and tweak.
One can also add / adjust eye color, makeup, various props like hats, earrings, etc.
There are a variety of ethnic flavors from which to choose as well as hair styles.

The hair styles are static and do not allow for modification...like putting a wig on a
head...that's it.

And then there's still the issue of those BOOTS! Many attempts have been made
to disguise them by making them flesh colored but that, IMO, is adding insult to
injury. Now the character looks like they have a medical issue with their legs.

Hopefully, Haptek will allow or provide a way to remove / modify the boots.

Yes, you can add a photo of a face THEN add one of the hair styles *you can
also add more than one hair style on top of each other but some looks simply
cannot be done except through post processing of the finished image.

Thanks Art. Well, after looking at my budget tonight I realized I can't afford school beyond my 2nd course even, so people putty will have to wait until "some day"...
