A render I did tonight. Really liking this hair. I wonder if she exists ;)

I have some assortment wig Daz, they are very realistic O0

Nicely done 8)

PERFECT face for a new chatbot!
-
Perfect mate for Freddy if she were real, eh? heh!
Nicely done and very cute!
-
Thanks everyone :)
I hope to do a bit more rendering soon. I will try my best to animate her too but I'm not sure if the hair will work. Only one way to find out.
-
May I check if you were you able to animate the hair? Some alternative animation ideas, aside from a bone system, may be to use key frames to slightly scale, back and forth, the height, width and to do slight rotations. What do you think?
-
I haven't really got that far with this yet. A couple of weeks back I started playing with Unity, so maybe there are some physics effects I could use on it. Your idea might work, I'll try to squeeze that in, thanks :)
-
Been a while since I have done any work with Daz Studio. Happily every time I go away I always return to find new goodies over there.
One of the most significant changes is a new renderer called Iray and it is very nice. I've been playing with it the past few days and here's one of my early renders.
Click the image to scale it up to full size.

COOL! PORTRAIT RENDERS!!
heres my go at a pretty dodgy looking face, but its got the sss and dry specular on ->
Im not so sure about that red glow stuff (like this one)- even if it happens am I sure its a decent thing to look at?
Im not sure if I do characters or organic monstrosities, running all my params 50/50, but whats the difference?

-
I like it, it's very organic looking - reminds me of rubber or something that has aged a lot.
Last one for tonight. As everyone knows when you go into the woods you need to be sensible about your outfit.
Quite a big render this one, again click to see it full size. I really like her face in this one.

Making one of these dolls is more like science than being an artist to me.
-
Freddy - these are excellent. How long does it take to create one?

Making one of these dolls is more like science than being an artist to me.
Yeah it's pretty fiddly. Most of the time is spent on turning dials and setttings for things like lights and matarials. I always saw it as something half way between painting and photography. I've made my own textures for outfits in the past and that is more like traditional art - I use Photoshop to do those.
Freddy - these are excellent. How long does it take to create one?
Thanks SquareBear :)
The one with the big smile took about an hour to set up, as I said above to get the light right took a lot of playing around with settings. I think that one took about 20 minutes to render.
For the one with the green background I bought some HDRI (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/High-dynamic-range_imaging) lights and I just shot it without doing any detail on the settings. It was late and I just wanted to test what I bought. I guess I spent an hour or so on that one too and it took about 13 minutes to render, the background is a photo I took and I blurred it to look out of focus then dropped that into the shot manually.
The sky's the limit on how long they take, it all depends on how you want it to look really. I spend a lot of time flaffing around with camera angles and things and poses - so again like I said above there's an element of photography in there too. You also do a lot of test renders too, to see how the light plays etc.
These studio or portrait shots take the least time for me. If you have a scene with lots of objects in it then it does take a lot longer to set up. And also takes longer to render. Whilst I am playing I just do simple things that take the least time. So simple hair, simple clothes - this helps to reduce render time.
-
Same, about the dial fiddling.
I find the better you did with the light+mat the crapper the model needs to be. :)
-
Hmm...Flaffing - engaged in useless, unproductive activity.
Don't know if your flaffing about produces this beautiful image but if so, you should do more of it! Nice work Freddy!!
New word for me and just when I thought I've seen them all...flafffing. Indeed! ;)
-
Hehe, well maybe it's not unproductive if people like it !
Thanks for the thumbs up :)
I'll do a bit more flaffing.
-
Can these animations be used on websites? Do you need a special player to make them work?
I'm looking at a replacement for Haptek which stopped working on the web after Windows XP
-
No, these are just stills - there's no animation with the ones in this thread.
These ones take 20 minutes just to render (draw), so you are not going to be able to animate to this clarity in real time. At least not in 3D. I can't wait for affordable hardware to get to the stage of making this possible though, but that's a good few years away, for most people at least.
For good animation, you'd need something like 30 fps to look nice.
You could animate in 3D with something like the Unity Web Player or the newer WebGL player. The web player was working in FF and IE, but not Chrome now. WebGL I think is still sort of beta, but looks promising. But with those options you can't really get the realism that you can with stills.
I'll be playing with those things again soon, so I will post my findings, maybe we can come up with something.
To give an example of the quality of using these models in Unity you can look at this animation (real-time) that I made a while back...
It's possible it could be improved with creative use of lighting and shaders.

A new one I did today. Same model, very versatile. You can see the hair is more complex and this does add to the render time of 40 minutes.
Click for the full size image.

You have a talent... now if we could make droids like this... hmmmm :D
On a side note... the video above when she is lip syncing... that's just what I experience when my gert is talking to me... then I say... what?
Edit... the numbers I mean...
-
Thanks :)
The numbers as you have probably guessed is my system for timing phonemes to trigger visemes. I had to build that myself, I felt quite pleased with myself. Previously I had used SAPI, but with Unity it would not work, so I used MaryTTS and did my own thing with the timings.

An Elf today.

That's not an Elf, she is a Vulcan ;)
Good work O0
-
Could be :D
Thank you :)

Two more shots of the Elf lady. Couldn't decide which background I prefer so here's both.

Prefer the second background myself, adds more depth and is more realistic.
-
I like them both for different reasons.
In the one you like that's a photo I took which I blurred out of focus. Sometimes real images can make the model seem less realistic, but with IRay it's becoming less of a problem.
It's all subjective this art lark. Thanks for taking a look :)
-
Personally, the 1st one has more of a magical feel, especially with the fog / haze about.
Just my take. Both are nice.
Your "vulcan-elf" didn't have the same lighting as the previous girl's image which looked more realistic.
Yeah...I know...a critic in every corner... (or behind every tree).... :knuppel2:
-
Thanks for taking a look Art :)
Yes I was not happy about that light in the Vulcan Elf.
Also about the foggy backdrop - yes that's why I like it - it reminds me of old Edwardian portraits where they would pose in front of a canvas.
-
I've been experimenting with HDR lighting. This is lighting that is generated with a high definition image - imagine a 360 panorama. So yeah the light in the image is used to calculate how the scene is lit.
So if you have an HDR image of a setting sunset, you could expect to see things in your scene with a red hue or something like that.
I found a few freebies, I'm still working out how to judge what an image will render like. So I'm just practising so far. I have to say though, I am very pleased with how the light plays - it seems quite natural to me.
See what you all think. Click to see full size...

-
Because the model is lit by the environment she looks more at home in the scene. This next one demonstrates this...

I checked out your other site nice work very pretty. You do good work with daz.
-
Thanks very much :)
That close up of the girl above is my best render I think. Practice, practice and practice !
-
The HDR lighting is definitely making the renders appear more realistic, which I like O0
I think we have mentioned it before, lighting and shadows are important to give that last little bit of realism.
-
Thank you :)
I'm getting there. The HDR lights will generate shadows, this one where she is in the woods, the light is pretty even all the way around, so not much in the way of shadows. I'll post one in a bit that I was experimenting with that shows shadows.
I'm wondering how much cameras cost that take these HDRs, I bet they are expensive.
-
for a while now there are specialized programs that automatically stitch several photos taken at different angles to a big panorama image. I just googled now (hehe, not that now) and I saw even Photoshop plugins that do these things.
-
Yes I went off and found the same thing. Still fiddling with things though, nothing to show yet.
-
Got diverted from my experiments on lighting a little.
Just coming back to what we were saying about the HDR and stitching. Google have this Android app called Photosphere and it will make the 360 x 180 degree images that Daz needs.
Here's a short article on it :
http://geojournalism.org/2015/02/create-immersive-photo-experiences-with-google-photo-sphere/ (http://geojournalism.org/2015/02/create-immersive-photo-experiences-with-google-photo-sphere/)
I needed a new mobile so I got one with a good camera and came up with this :
http://widdershinsstudio.uk/stuff/ (http://widdershinsstudio.uk/stuff/)
It's my garden. It's a bit choppy but it was my first attempt and the weather has been crap since and I've been too busy with other things. But it has potential. You could go out and make a sphere then take that into Daz Studio, plop in your model and bingo they're on your lawn :D
-
I also like the girls skin and the way her leather garment actually Looked like leather.
HDR imaging has been around for quite a number of years as I used to use it in some of my early Max renderings and some Rhino ones.
Lights and shadows...where would we be without them? In Grayworld? Heh! O0
Very nice work Freddy!
-
Woow !! It's a beautiful lady!
-
Thank you Claude.
Been a while since I posted anything in this thread, but as some of you know lately I have been working on Daz things and other projects.
Anyway I got interested in Non Photorealistic Renders (NPR).
So I am playing with things like this.

Aerodynamics says she'll never fly but great work, lets take the obj file and put it in a haptek character.

-
I was going to mention it earlier but they almost look like pencil sketches! Nicely done BTW!
-
Thanks Carl and Art :)
Yes it's a pencil sketch algorithm/filter that did the effect. I'm getting into more comic book and graphic novel stuff at the moment.

Perhaps you should speak with Don with regard to the comic thing. O0
