Thanks everyone  :)

I hope to do a bit more rendering soon. I will try my best to animate her too but I'm not sure if the hair will work. Only one way to find out.

May I check if you were you able to animate the hair?  Some alternative animation ideas, aside from a bone system, may be to use key frames to slightly scale, back and forth, the height, width and to do slight rotations.  What do you think?

I haven't really got that far with this yet. A couple of weeks back I started playing with Unity, so maybe there are some physics effects I could use on it. Your idea might work, I'll try to squeeze that in, thanks :)

Been a while since I have done any work with Daz Studio. Happily every time I go away I always return to find new goodies over there.

One of the most significant changes is a new renderer called Iray and it is very nice. I've been playing with it the past few days and here's one of my early renders.

Click the image to scale it up to full size.

COOL!  PORTRAIT RENDERS!!

heres my go at a pretty dodgy looking face,  but its got the sss and dry specular on ->

Im not so sure about that red glow stuff (like this one)-  even if it happens am I sure its a decent thing to look at?

Im not sure if I do characters or organic monstrosities, running all my params 50/50, but whats the difference?

I like it, it's very organic looking - reminds me of rubber or something that has aged a lot.

Last one for tonight. As everyone knows when you go into the woods you need to be sensible about your outfit.

Quite a big render this one, again click to see it full size. I really like her face in this one.

Making one of these dolls is more like science than being an artist to me.

Yeah it's pretty fiddly. Most of the time is spent on turning dials and setttings for things like lights and matarials. I always saw it as something half way between painting and photography. I've made my own textures for outfits in the past and that is more like traditional art - I use Photoshop to do those.

Thanks SquareBear :)

The one with the big smile took about an hour to set up, as I said above to get the light right took a lot of playing around with settings. I think that one took about 20 minutes to render.

For the one with the green background I bought some HDRI lights and I just shot it without doing any detail on the settings. It was late and I just wanted to test what I bought. I guess I spent an hour or so on that one too and it took about 13 minutes to render, the background is a photo I took and I blurred it to look out of focus then dropped that into the shot manually.

The sky's the limit on how long they take, it all depends on how you want it to look really. I spend a lot of time flaffing around with camera angles and things and poses - so again like I said above there's an element of photography in there too. You also do a lot of test renders too, to see how the light plays etc.

These studio or portrait shots take the least time for me. If you have a scene with lots of objects in it then it does take a lot longer to set up. And also takes longer to render. Whilst I am playing I just do simple things that take the least time. So simple hair, simple clothes - this helps to reduce render time.

Same, about the dial fiddling.

I find the better you did with the light+mat the crapper the model needs to be. :)
