Title: British TTS with Haptek characters
Post by: wgb14 on February 09, 2010, 04:01:13 am
Hi all

I wonder if anybody has ever tried a British voice with a Haptek character. I am using Loquendo Kate but for some reason and only for that voice none of my characters will lip-sync. I tried modifying the phoneme table that comes with the Player without any success.

A British TTS voice. Sure...the L&H British voices work fine. I think the Loquendo or Acapela voices are for Text-Aloud ONLY as I believe it so states on the Nextup site.

I had tried the Heather voice a few years ago only to find it did not work. They subsequently changed their web site product wording.

Make sure to run the HaptekSapiSetup, then try the voice again...just to make sure.

I bought the Australian Karen voice from Text Aloud a few years back now and it did do lip sync, so I would think the British ones would too.

Something in the back of my mind is telling me that they changed things so it only works with their programs, though I am not sure if that was just a convenient explanation of the time.  If that was the case I would have thought they would not work at all.

I tried Acapela British Lucy but it doesn't work at all this time (no lip-sync of any kind). Loquendo Kate does some lip sync but it forgets most of the phonemes. I tried creating my own phonemes table but with very limited success. All these new voices use the latest IPA phoenemes table something that obviously the old Haptek characters can not use at all.

For me, ever since I started using Windows 7 my “Cepstral Lawrence” British voice doesn’t lip-sync, I have tried the HaptekSapiSetup, that did work in XP but not in Win 7.

Interestingly I see there is a Windows 64 bit up-date for the voice at Cepstral but It’s not free, even to someone that has already paid for it.

There should be some clarification here.

Do the voices NOT work with the Haptek characters as seen / used with UltraHal OR People Putty?

I would think there would be a difference.

It would also be nice to know which version of Windows is being used...XP, Vista, 7? 32 / 64 bit....

Some checking with the TTS vendors / creators is obviously in order as well.

Just some thoughts.

To clarify an earlier posting of mine.  TEXT-ALOUD is a program that allows for TTS voices to speak and interact with various subjects like Weather, Stocks, etc. Not just the fact that the text is spoken aloud.  ::)
