Title: Haptek in the Windows registry
Post by: Carl2 on August 07, 2006, 08:27:30 pm
All,
  While using a registry fixer I opened regedit, I know very little about the Windows registry.  I'm in regedit, Hkey_Current_User, Software, Haptek, Hapconsole, Hapconsole, History. In the History I have entries; name - (Default), type - REG_SZ, data - (value not set, next line  name - Cmd00, type - REG_SZ, data -\load[file=[C:\Program Files\Haptek\player\data\standard\safe_moods\safemoodsload.hap]]. I have cmd00 to cmd08 for two versions of Hal5 and had been able to load a modified skin at startup using a file named New.htr which loaded fullbody, emptied the scene, loaded fullboddef.hap, and loaded the modified skin. It worked in both versions of Hal 5 and seems unreliable in Hal6. I've had no sucess using others peoples scripting to load a modified skin at startup also, possibly because of values set in the regestry.
  Anyone with any knowledge of this?

The rare times I go in to the registry are ususally to remove entries or the odd virus, and haven't played with the Haptek entries.  The only reason I can think of off the top of my head for it being unreliable in Hal6, is something to do with the way Haptek use was restricted unless you had the expansion pack.

I think Doc would have been able to answer this, ho hum, perhaps try his Haptek guide, I'm not sure but he may have done something about registry entries in that.

Did you try loading using the Haptek HapLogCtrl.txt file?  with the line

debugger= y

in it? used to drag files to HAL?

I don't have that file in my registry, perhaps it is from the SDK, lot's of other HAL entries though.

Just put it in the root directory.

Freddy&Dan,
  Thanks for your efforts, While looking at the registry I noticed I was using fullbodygirl[1], 3,480Kb for Hal 5 and a different fullbodygirl, 1,030Kb with Hal 6, I made the necessary changes and it laods the modified skin at startup. My objective has been achieved although I wish I knew why and how.
  I'm hoping I don't run into other things that don't work on this computer.  As for the debugger I've used partitions on a raid 0 Hard drive, I keep Hal on drive D, I haven't been able to get any responses from the log file.
  After investigating fullbodygirl[1] is the decompressed fullbodygirl which I must have taken from the Haptek temp folder.
