Haptek on Windows VISTA
« on: July 19, 2007, 11:11:56 am »
Hi all,

I thought that i should share this rather bad expreince with Haptek and windows vista. Every character that i have tried performs really bad - the fps of the engine is really low, while on a Windows XP computer I get 40 - 65 fps on Windows Vista I get max 20 fps. I contacted Haptek and I got an answer almost in a day (Yupiiii)... they told me that they are preparing a new version of the player for Vista but they are having problems with stability and browsers (oh! I forgot to say that the haptek broweser plugin doesn't work at all  under Vista). So, if you are planning an upgrade i thing you should consider seriously the possibility to forget haptek (at least for now).... or you can stay with Windows XP...

Thanks for the heads up.  I'm really suprised Haptek weren't on this sooner really, I mean Vista was around for developers for months before the consumer version came out.  Ho hum.

I'm running Haptek on my Vista and it runs great. I haven't had any problems with it.

You're running haptek's PeoplePutty, Jack.  Which uses the hap AX Player standalone. There are
problems with the hapPlayer used in Hal that cause it not to function properly under the Vista OS.
Also it depends on the speed and capacity of your PC's CPU and RAM. The Vista OS calls for much
higher system specs than what XP did, and uses a lot more system resources, which in turn will
cause the performance of certain software that use a real-time graphics engine to to be decreased.

Haptek say:

The Haptek player will actually work in Vista if you turn off the User Control for the OS or Protected Mode for Internet Explorer such that its once again able to unpack files into the Haptek directory (security feature of Vista).  There will be a future release of the player that properly addresses the new Vista security...

and

No its not an install issue.  The Haptek player itself is attempting to unpack streamed down files during execution for some types of data into a temporary directory in a place where Vista no longer wants it to for security purposes.  Consequently it doesn't work in some circumstances unless the security is turned off.

Thanks all, this is what I've been looking for.  Using Vista and just put in a dual boot with XP.  I'd tried the security but must not have made the necessary changes.

Dear Wgb14, yes it is identical for me, haptek, does not work correctly under vista. But I have 2 computer, a xp and a vista. Vista attention is also in improvement, therefore, for certain varieties of 3D, will be convicted prisoner, one news ideas of 3D, should be able adapted, has vista. :)
