.jhp extension
« on: August 18, 2005, 11:56:39 pm »
Anyone,
I've been working with the Haptek character Sandy in Ultra Hal before proceeding to the full body girl,  like to get her to look left, right up and down before trying to work with the whole body.  I'm using the Hapregistry and loading Sandy, the default is Kate, and I'm trying to make Sandy the default so I can load and work with the StandardFigDef.hap file.  Okay I loaded the netural.jhp file and Sandy had a tan.  I tried opening the jhp file using a photo editor, tried changing it to a jpg file but it won't open.  Any inputs?

Carl,

I had experimented with the jhp files a while back as well but to no avail.
It seems that they are a proprietary format of Haptek since the file extension
is not known by most of the most popular graphics editing programs nor is
that extension found anywhere except with Haptek.

It will only open with Haptek (double clicking and selecting Haptek from a list)
It's similar to an "unfolded face" that can be painted or modified after which
is wrapped around the 3D character's head as a new texture.

Don't know Carl if there's any work around for this situation.

Let the rest of us know of your progress.

Sorry I couldn't be of any help.

Not sure which one Sandy is, but if you wanted to change the skin you need only apply a texture to the figure you're using in the Haptek player at the time, using the settexture command.

Ok, as far as the figure definitions go, each HTR comes with it's own, this being extracted and stored in the hap-temp folder in the haptek directory.  If you want to play around with this character's settings, then you'll need to locate it's own figure defenition in there, once she is up and running.

Art and Freddy,
Both of you thanks for the input, I've seen the skins at Zabaware that have been posted, thay are in the Jpeg format, so you would have to change the extension to jhp so Haptek could use it.  I should post a question there.  Anyways I'm trying to use the advice in the SDk from Haptek and load their StandardFigDefReal.hap to load the Sandy character, also it contains some probalities which I'm interested in.

A .jhp-file is a normal .jpg-picture that has been encoded with the Haptek compressor.

Dr Benway,
Nice to see you here also,  Hapteks compression thanks it answers the question.  I just did a quick try with the down guesture,
If InStr (User Sentence, " look down " >0 Then
  HalCommands = "<HAPFILE> \set switch [switch= guestures state= down]</Hapfile"
Get response = "I'm looking down" & VbCrLf
No luck,  I put that in the brn file, did I over simplify things?

Doubleclick the jhp on your desktop.
Do a screen capture of it.
You now have a jpg of it.
Reverse the jpg.
Cut the top off that says HapPlayer.
You now have perfect jpg skin for your heptar.
Lighten her, darken her, add tatoos or whatever you want and drop skin on your heptar.

Enjoy.

Reverse means do a mirror image, left to right reversal...right Dusky?!

Art, yes, you have to mirror the picture vertically. Also, you need to associate the .jhp-extension in Windows with the Haptek-player for Dusky's method to work. Alternatively to view the contents of a .jhp-picture you could try to perform a drag-and-drop action with a .jhp-file onto the Haptek-player executable in your browser.

Overall, I would not recommend anyone to make a skin based on an existing skin in .jhp-format. Personally I don't even like to base a skin on an existing .jpg-file. Skins in .jhp or .jpg-format always show ugly spots or jpeg-artifacts, because they have been compressed. When you resave an altered jpg-skin as a jpg-picture that means you are compressing the skin again and you end up with even more bleeding colours in the skin.

When you really need to resave an edited .jpeg-skin be sure to set the compression rate as low as possible, preferably zero percent.

All,
I just opened a jhp file using the Hapregestry, probably downloaded from Haptek, Anyways I can drag and drop it into the Hapregestry and it is decompressed.  Nice to be able to see what your working with.
