AI optimized economic abundance vs. humans optimized for scarcity

Hi, I have been thinking about the Silicon Valley promised best case scenario in which AI provides unlimited benefits for everyone. I'm a Biology major and computer programmer and it seems to me that endless abundance might have some huge drawbacks as human evolution prepared us for scarcity (ex. competition and rewards for finding food, mates, etc). Almost endless abundance doesn't seem to have worked out too well for individuals like the typical lottery winner or trust fund rich kid. What would it mean for an entire society?

Rather than write a scientific essay, I have written an old school 2,500 word science fiction story as, like an elegant piece of code, it seemed like the most compact and elegant way to present the ideas. The story is called "Bittersweet Apple" and I've posted it for reading and sharing up at http://funbasedlearning.com/stories/BittersweetApple.html .
(The talking horses are a reference to the horses in CGP Grey's "Humans Need Not Apply "YouTube video and Wassily Leontief's economic theories about human labor.)

Welcome to our humble slice of artificialness. It's as real as you'd care to make it. ;)

I really liked your story. No horsing around!

Kind of a bittersweet truth indeed!

Even though there is a lesson to be learned, I doubt if it will. (you know how we humans can be). O0
In the world of AI, it's the thought that counts!
