Humanity only has 100 years left on Earth...
« on: June 23, 2019, 02:52:26 pm »
...before Doomsday!

So sayeth Stephen Hawking.
He thinks climate change, asteroid strikes, epidemics, and overpopulation will be our downfall.

Could he be correct in this hypothesis?

In the world of AI, it's the thought that counts!

Populations are supposed to increase if they can...  I have never seen the problem there. If there is an asteroid strike or some other disturbance like that, then epidemics will certainly exploit the  fact that we've become dependant on vaccines for our health, instead of evolution. As for climate change, the ice caps act like capacitors so they will buffer sea temps for a while. We have had periods in history with no ice caps, and they have returned... So that's possible. There are mechanisms for storing carbon, forest fires do that. Or just forests in climates which don't allow for decomposition. So I would guess that just as various interdependent animal species have populations like sine curves overlapping at 180 degrees, so too flora and fauna always serve to remunerate each other.

It sounds like you're trying to get into political topics. Most well-known scientists are part of the system, including Stephen Hawking and Michio Kaku, so they have either bought into the limited, official view of public science, or have been discouraged from speaking their minds on controversial issues, or both. I already stated in the thread that was recently deleted that at least two people say that the human race as we know it (meaning living in profusion and in non-slavery conditions) has only 20-23 years left. Whether you're camping in the wilderness, walking through a large city downtown, or simply living on planet earth, your greatest enemy will generally be your fellow man, not wild animals, and not nature. Therefore the greatest threat to the human race will always be human beings themselves, especially those with the most power over others, therefore this topic is inherently political, at least at a high level.
