A newer type of battery. Instead of the dangerous Li-ion ones that can catch fire if damaged or ruptured, this guy's new one is much different and safer.

Well done that man, mighty impressive.
All fingers crossed that it's as good as the video shows and that the new technology ends up in the hands of someone that wants to do something with it.
If an oil company puts in the largest bid and gets it's hands on it then we could wave goodbye to safer Lithium batteries, at least until the oil runs out :(
Good vid Art, thanks :)

Neat! I especially liked the part about how they dealt with expansion by making the electrode porous.
One thing I didn't see them talk about was degradation rate (Li-ion batteries eventually wear out, especially if abused in certain ways). If that's as good as the current state of the art, then these batteries sound great.

I thought it was kind of inferred especially when they mentioned that the recharge longevity (number of times the batteries could be charged) would be greatly increased [thousands of times].
There is rumor of another type of glass battery that will be flexible. That should put a new slant on things.
The future is awesome.

@Art: I was referencing the most recent article that Keghn posted, not your video that started the thread. I don't *think* the IEEE article said anything about recharge longevity, unless I'm forgetting.

Oops! Sorry about that.
