Title: A prison for your mind
Post by: Zero on November 07, 2017, 02:53:25 pm
A filter bubble (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Filter_bubble) is a prison that you cannot taste or see or touch.

AI is definitely involved here. This one makes me angry.

I totally agree. E.g. Nobody is going to public libraries anymore. We look for immediate and commonly used answers on internet whereas "holy grail" may be in a lost dusty book   :(
I will always remember that day (there was no internet at that time) I went to a library without knowing which book I would take. I came back home with a book explaining mental manipulation techniques !  :o And I still remember the main content 20 years later !

Must have been a book on Hypnosis! ;)

Wonder what the person with split or multiple personalities experiences after receiving adverts based on their personal choices at the time?
No fun intended as those conditions are quite real and must be doubly confusing if that person goes online as one personality then changes later or even while still connected.

? Does Hypnosis have long lasting effects or is reinforcement necessary?

I have watch many of his videos which I find quite amazing, interesting and entertaining, often scratching my head as to his methods.
This man is Derren Brown from England.

"explaining mental manipulation techniques ! "

@Thierry i would like to hear more about this book.

;D Actually this book is in french language written by french authors. I don't think it has been translated. This is the french wikipedia introduction of the book ; https://fr.wikipedia.org/wiki/Petit_trait%C3%A9_de_manipulation_%C3%A0_l%27usage_des_honn%C3%AAtes_gens

To find similar books in english, the best way is to refer to "social psychology" or "experimetal psychology " This discipline has a practical and scientific approach of human behaviour.

Mental manipulation is used everyday by everybody but nobody knows who manipulates who. Indeed manipulation is a matter of really basic simple techniques. Did you ever wonder why beggars say "hello  " before asking money ? This is not for being polite. Because "Hello" is a first engagement (agreement) between him and you! "Hello" is an invitation to reply "hello" on your turn. Not replying "hello" would create an internal "dissonance" in your polite beliefs considering yourself as rude to someone who were not towards you. So you reply "Hello". Then the beggar gets more chance to ge receive a coin by asking it. If the beggar is more manipulative then he will say "hello" and while standing up close to a telephone booth he will say he needs one coin  to call his mom who s at hospital.
Some pseudo - religious institutions are widely using those techniques in order to grow and steal money in a large scale. Thats why this book book title was "Little treaty of manipulation used by honest people".

This is one of the most famous social psychology experiments : The MILGRAM EXPERIMENT.

This consists on testing human cruelty. Indeed, it is to know how can mass of people may torture all together according to an order given by someone who endorses the whole responsability of those orders. Enjoy !
