Title: Your favorite nootropic or energy substance
Post by: unreality on May 03, 2018, 06:14:34 pm
Everyone reacts differently to different substances, but overall people are raving about the L-Theanine and Caffeine stack. So I bought 5.3 oz of L-Theanine and 500 V-caps (200mg each) of caffeine from NutraBio. It's a reasonably large and well known company in body building. Their youtube videos seem great, like a bunch of sincere folks. I generally take a lot of L-Theanine because everyone is saying there's no bad effects. Anywhere from 2000 mg to about 400 mg. The container suggests 1 scoop, 2000 mg, which is a LOT. So it's not an excess amount. Some people take a lot more. L-Theanine is suppose to be helpful in numerous ways including counter acting the bad effects one normally gets with caffeine such as jitteriness. So I took both for about 3 weeks without noticing much. The L-Theanine gives me a cold cooling effect along with *slight* momentary calmness. Besides that, nada! I decided to stop using them, but was hating the idea of caffeine headache withdraws. I've never been a coffee drinker, but have at times drank a lot of mountain dew for a week, which always gives me big headaches for a few days when I stop due to caffeine withdraws. So after a week of not taking the stack, nothing. No headaches. No withdraws at all. Is that normal? I've never read that L-Theanine prevents caffeine dependency. Maybe I'll take the caffeine pills alone and stop just to see if I get withdraw effects. I bought both NutraBio products directly from Amazon. Maybe a scam.

Idk. I'm going back to ginseng. Does anyone have a good nootropic stack or energy substance?

In the long run there is no substitute for a balanced diet and regular exercise. I can manage the former but not the latter. I drink good coffee every day and love it. There is mounting evidence that lots of coffee (as distinct from just caffeine) is good for you in numerous ways, as long as you don't drink enough to affect your temperament (up to four cups a day for most people).

The one thing that you may not have tried and which does have a real benefit is vitamin D supplements. Vitamin D helps you resist and recover from illness and has a powerful impact on muscle and bone development. You normally only get it through exposure to sunlight, so if you are dark skinned, live at a high latitude, or don't spend much time outdoors, you will feel noticeably more alert and energetic if you take vitamin D every day.

Note that there are certain rare medical conditions for which vitamin D supplements are contra-indicated (e.g. hyperparathyroidism) and which would need to be treated before you can take vitamin D safely. You should check with your doctor to be on the safe side.

I take 1 vitamin D and 1 Flintstones vitamin each morning. Flintstones vitamins good? They both taste like pezz candy.

I take a daily vitamin pill that has 100% daily value of D. Somewhere around here there's a bottle of D, I think D1, that's high potency. Exercise is a big problem for a lot of people. Not sure if it counts, but I walk or pace a lot everyday. At least a few hours. I'm a pacer when I think.

Getting enough sleep is another critical health requirement that a lot of people neglect. If you consistently get less than six hours sleep per day/night you risk permanent brain damage, no exceptions. Sleep during daylight hours is also much less effective than sleep at night. Your body naturally produces melatonin when it gets dark which causes you to feel sleepy. You can take melatonin pills as an alternative to sleeping pills to recover faster from jet lag, or if you are having trouble sleeping, but it's better to address the cause rather than try to mask the symptoms.

Yeah, I love the sugar rush that I get from Coca Cola. It's a shame it's such poison.

HaHa What!???

Try to jiggle everywhere you go/sit.

Thankfully my freedom of chores makes me indulge in lots of sleep. Always at least 8 a night. And usually 9/10 or 12, and if I'm up ex. 16 hours, I may sleep 16/20. I slept 23/24 a few times, I have a clock in my room.

Body really repairs.

Ah, now that's the other problem. Too much rest has a detrimental effect on your health too. More than 9 or 10 hours of sleep at a time will severely impact your cardiovascular fitness. If you're really sleeping such long hours without an obvious reason (you already said you don't go to music festivals) it may indicate undiagnosed clinical depression or some other serious problem.

This sucks but the best way to stimulate your physical and mental health and performance is to experience a certain amount of stress in your daily routine, and the best way to do that is to get a job. These days far too many jobs are way too stressful. The Japanese even have a word for dying of overwork. But the right kind of job will work wonders for your outlook and well-being, even if you're wealthy enough not to need one.

From my Family Internist, my V.A. Doctor and my Cardiologist, everything in Moderation...not excess.
A healthy diet of fruits, vegetables, and protein such as fish, chicken or lean red meat. The meat/fish portions should be roughly the size of the palm of one's hand (no fingers included).

Avoid processed food (bologna, hot dogs, fast foods), sugary drinks like colas. They don't call it junk food without reason.

Cut back or eliminate carbs like Bread, grains and flour products. Pasta and rice in limited quantities once in a while is OK provided one does moderate exercise to help burn off those calories. It all comes down to calories.

Beans and legumes are an excellent source of protein and a nice salad can help stave off those hunger pangs. Try some balsamic vinegar as a salad dressing. The calorie content is hardly worth noticing and tastes great. Doc also said it was more than fine to eat eggs several times a week as they are mostly protein and those old myths about being high in cholesterol are false.

Water is a must and no you really don't need those flavored additives to squirt into the water bottle. Stay hydrated and it water also helps flush your body of impurities.

Coffee is almost as healthy as water and with some other benefits. As infurl mentioned, 3 to 4 cups per day should be fine.

Cut back on sugar and salt as so many products already contain more than one might realize.
If one does have a passion for candy, eat Dark Chocolate instead of Milk Chocolate. It has far better ingredients, some of which are beneficial.

Certain nuts are also a great source of protein like Pistachios, Almonds, and Macadamia nuts. No to peanuts, walnuts, and cashews.

Extra Virgin Olive Oil is great to use for salads and cooking.

Avoid artificial sweeteners and especially all DIET SOFT DRINKS. The chemicals they put in those are nothing short of legal poison and studies have shown that the chemicals contained in Diet Sodas actually Cause people to Eat More! Not less!!

Start with some moderate exercise like a slow walk for about 10 - 20 minutes and over a couple of weeks try to extend your walking time and pace. You'll soon realize how much easier it is. Wear some earbuds/headphones in a portable music device/phone to help keep your focus intact while walking.

Don't try to do too much too soon...it will become easier in time.

I've lost over 35 lbs, eat healthily and walk several miles each day, no smoking and only an occasional glass of wine with dinner once in a while.
Just had my yearly checkup and all systems seem fine!

To each their own. Good luck and finish your veggies! ;) O0

Thanks for that Art. Because of you I just came home with a box of strawberries, mushrooms, and a jug of aloe vera juice & some natural fruit juice. Did I do good? Some lady in the store told me how wonderful aloe vera juice is. It must be healthy because it taste pretty bad lol. She told me to mix it with fruit juice. It's pretty good then. Aloe vera juice has 1 calorie per 59ml ! :)

That's nice to hear, really!

Do be careful of Fruit Juices on two accounts...
Whether they are natural from Real Fruit or from concentrated extracts and additives.

Secondly, check the Calorie content. On an 8-ounce plastic bottle of grape juice, it might say 90 calories per 8 oz. serving, (which is the whole bottle).

If I feel that might be both too much for me to drink and/or more calories that I want/need for breakfast, then I'll pour half of it into a small glass/cup which should be about 45 calories in this instance. You'll find that sometimes getting just a taste or two is enough to satisfy the urge or desire for the juice beverage. Plus, you can have the other half the next day, saving you money!

While you don't need to become a Lable Reader, it certainly doesn't hurt to learn just what IS contained on the labels and whether the contents, size and caloric information is right for you! Try to become a smarter, more informed shopper. After all, you only get one body!

I never cared about all that until it was almost too late for me. Now, it's no big deal, a quick glance at the label while at the food store and I'm good.

One thing I did forget to mention holds true for those who can or choose to enjoy it is Nature's perfect food...Honey! It never goes bad. People have used it to sweeten coffee, tea, and hot cereals for years. While it also contains calories, it can be a more healthy substitute for a lot of folks.

Instead of sweets or ice cream (who doesn't love ice cream), we might fix a small bowl of sliced strawberries, blueberries, pineapple, grapes, and watermelon or cantaloupe. Whatever kind of fruit you enjoy and whatever is in season, (price and quality are both affected). Nicely chilled is a really great treat for us.

There are lots of ways to eat smarter and healthier. Be creative and check some online food sites for good recipes and food ideas for free.

Be healthy! O0
