Neuroscientists have made an interesting new discovery about a previously unknown structure in the brain by reverse engineering an artificial neural network which was trained to solve a similar problem, that of navigation in unfamiliar environments. It's long been thought that more could be learned about human brains by studying artificial ones, and that day has finally arrived.
