Title: Cat recognises self in mirror
Post by: Freddy on December 03, 2018, 05:37:41 pm: Occasionally we will see that only a few animals are regarded as self aware, I think elephants and apes are the main ones, but I don't think cats usually get mentioned in the same breath.

Here's a cat that seems to have worked out it was itself in the mirror and that those were his ears!

Besides, more likely, the cat has mistaken its reflection for a mouse.

We make choices on which animals to keep and breed, looks and temperaments influence this. It's probably not that cut and dry. I bet that subconsciously we're selecting for human like traits, we just call it looks and temperaments. I bet those concepts are self biased, rather than perfectly objective. Man, I'm so proud of that cat though! It would be a shame if it's neutered.

Different breeds might just beget different abilities. Who knows for sure in this age...well I'm sure there are some animal researchers tucked away in a lab somewhere. O0
