Think again! Now scientists have come up with a way to print 3D objects in the middle of a gel.

I think they are actually two different technologies being used, although I could be mistaken. What you have shown in that video is 3D Resin printing which is capable of some amazing output showing extremely fine detail.

I especially liked this tall Eiffel tower coming out of a much shallower container of liquid. Nice illusion I think.

In the last termintor movie Genesys from a few years ago, they show T-1000s coming up from goo too lol.
