Before I got into artificial intelligence I was doing a lot of work on skin shaders. I wanted to recreate the cover of terminator for a long time, and I still love it, and I love paintings by Caravaggio - the skin is supreme.
The end result of what I discovered was I could look at it as tho its comprised of 2 things, but you can actually have one without the other and it still works quite well. A realistic specular shader (cook torrence works well) + the wax/marble blur.
So they work without each other, but together its the most amazing.

It's going to be fun to see NPCs in games take up this kind of tech 8)

Not just how they look, how they move and talk can also be improved, but someone needs to get off their bum and do it for us! :)
