Just how good is it? Pretty over the top according to their claims.
The article posts some comparisons between some existing chatbots alongside Meena.

One comparison that kind of got my attention in a not-quite-right way was the comparison of Cleverbot to Mitsuku.
While Cleverbot might have digested a larger database over the years, it's context and overall continuity do not come close to Mitsuku's ability to carry on a decent, topical conversation.
To my way of thinking, I would rank Mitsuku at least 10 percentage points higher than Cleverbot. Certainly no offense toward any of the bots' authors.
It is just my personal observation.
Of course, many of these types of selections or choices are somewhat subjective as we are all different in our likes and dislikes.
It seems like with what happened to the wonderful game of Chess once the computers got involved, it soon became unable for humans to win.
One day soon, the computers will know what we want before we ask for it. Hmm...

For the same reason that they didn't mention AIML, it's a platform, not a chatbot. Have there been any more prize winning chatbots built on ChatScript since Suzette ten years ago? I think ChatScript mainly appeals to skilled programmers, and people who are skilled programmers *and* skilled content creators are fairly rare. See what Steve said below, I think he's right.
