Title: AI Agriculture Weed Detection
Post by: istro44 on March 20, 2020, 12:50:17 am
I am trying to develop a system for an agriculture sprayer. A farmer needs to spray weeds in his fields. A lot of money and time is wasted spraying everything instead of just the weeds. My plan is to use AI to detect the type of weed and trigger a specific nozzle to spray a specific mixture of chemicals. This would facilitate for less spray routines.

You are right about the advantages of such a system. I've seen lots of articles about different companies and universities working on projects like that in recent years. Not just with robots but drones too; DJI actually sells a large agricultural drone that represents dramatic savings in time and chemicals for weed control, though it's possibly not available outside China. Try searching on YouTube for "robot weed sprayer" and you'll find many videos about these projects.

Another issue/concern is to identify the variety of weed types given a certain geographic location. In my state alone, we have a handful of Regions and they all have identified various combinations of grass seeds that are best suited for the climate, soil and growing conditions (sun, wind, rain, snow, etc.) that exist within our state.

Much of the same could apply to weed variants.

Good luck with your endeavor!
