Title: SL - Making Content
Post by: Freddy on July 24, 2007, 02:08:28 pm
This is mainly for aladyblond, gamertom and mav.

I figured it would be cool if we got our heads together on this one so this thread is a place to drop links to useful information, tutorials and help etc.

The theory is that if we are all singing from the same hymn sheet we should be able to progress quite quickly and help each other out.

My personal first area that I want to explore is skin making, then maybe after that body shapes and morphs - if thats how it works, but I am open to anything.

Happy hunting!

They have skinning templates as well as tutorials for them in the downloads area of the main SL site.
I just downloaded them, but haven't had the opp to look them over yet. ~alady already is getting into
making clothing skins.  ;)

Thanks Mav  ;D

I found you can post links to SL places just like you do normal web links - pretty neat and a very useful way to let people know where you mean.

Ok..templates...question - presumably you need the template for the skin you are actually wearing in game ?  Or is there one template for all ?

they allow you to design your own skin body in a sense by allpying certain parameters thin thick longshort etc but if you buy skins or make them you can project your own or anothers image onto the template its just like poser and hal.

It's pretty much one template for each part of the body. You can make extra stuff like jackets
and skirts appear to have different styles by working in layers and adding transparencies.
The biggest market in SL for new skins and clothing extras is the adult entertainment market
which accounts for almost two thirds of the regular busines done in SL. Especially lucrative is
the market for BDSM items, which from what I understand is high price / high demand.

I must have spent 3 hours talking to Ein Bekkers who owns the mall behind Vits office.
He's a good source to pump for info, but you gotta watch the guy and what you let him
know about your own plans, he's one really slick dude whos always looking for some
angle that he can use to make money, honest or not.

I'll be in SL later. Like in a couple hours from now if any of you want to hook up.
First I have some other business I have to take care of. Then I can have a little fun.  ;)

Anyone know if Paint Shop Pro saves out TGA's with an Alpha Channel please ?

I'm trying ULead Photoimpact, but there doesn't seem to be any form of alpha channel options - it just seems to save both the texture and alpha channel as one image - surely that's not gonna work right, because I am thinking the transparent (alpha) parts will just show up as black.

Any help gratefully received :)

Ok thanks, I'm still trying to get some guidance on Ulead but if it doesn't do it then I will go buy a version of PSP then.
