Title: Second Life: visitor or actor?
Post by: GT40 on February 01, 2011, 04:06:39 pm

Just a little thought. Since the day I discovered SL, I have met lots of residents, read lots of pages. It seems we are two categories of users.

The VISITORS, who spend their time to travel and discover more and more wonderful places, in the best quality, with high-tech computers. Not very involved, just saying "wow, this is beautiful!". But why not. They come in SL from time to time.

The ACTORS, who live another (virtual, really?) life, intensely, a life they can choose and build (usually no easy in RL). They ARE someone else, with friends, personal groups, if possible owning lands, creating new places and other things. Often addicted. No need to have sophisticated computers for that (but always useful). Oh my, it's me!

By the way, the "game" (kidding, we know it's not a game) is named Second LIFE, not Second World. If you don't see what I mean, you must try that thing!! :brb:

GT,

Have you ever tried Entropia? I had heard the graphics were more lifelike there but really couldn't say first hand. Can you make real money in SL?

I had 3 shops in SL and was making some real money there, then it started to become a grind rather than fun, I also started to neglect RL.

Now just a Visitor to SL from time to time, but I think GT is about right there, visitors and actors.

Just thought of this, there might be a third group of people in SL, Builders.

Thank you Freddy, just a little postcard from hell and heaven. >:D

Art, Data answered you about money. A shop is a good example. Getting fun and a few dollars is nice, but when it becomes a fulltime job, better to stay in RL.

Being rich with SL, I don't know, but if anyone is interested, I can explain how to lose money...:faq-roll:

I never tried Entropia (my PC is very old) and I see it's a scifi game, not my cup of tea. In the past, I used Active Worlds, with my W98 computer, fun but really ugly. Oh, did I tell you I love SL?

PS: just reading your 2nd post, Data, yes, builders with a very good knowledge of SL, fun too.
